Certain Citizens Are Playing Pound-master on a Small Scale. Recently many reports similar to the following have been received at the police station: "Mr. Clerk, send the poundmaster out to No. street right away. A cow has been annoying me all the morning, and I have just put her in my lot and will keep her until the poundman gets here." Many of the like reports have been received by the police clerk lately, and In fact it is almost an every-day occurrence for some one to "steal" their neighbors cows for the poundmaster.

If the habit is not abandoned somebody will most assuredly get into trouble. The pound ordinance provides for a poundmaster, and the state law prohibits one person taking possession of another's cow under such circumstances. CHILDREN'S BLACK SEAMLESS HOSE, 8c. MISTROT. Owing to the large amount of work In my office during the next month, I will not be able to see all of you personally before the primaries, and so I take this method of saying a few words to you in regard to my candidacy for re-election to the office of county school superintendent. I have held the office only one term, and as It has been the democratic precedent to give a faithful and efficient officer a second term, I feel that if I have done my duty I am entitled to reelection. The city people pay very little attention to the county superintendent- because he has nothing at all to do with the city schools, but in their choice they should be guided to in Need of I 816 Congress Avenue. Eighteen Is theJeeord Since Last Bunduy Some Were By Oftlcers, Since last Sunday morning at 4:50 o'clock, eighteen pistol shots have toen fired In this city. Five were fired by Capt. Harry Owen at the driving park last Friday afternoon In starting the horse races, and one by an ofllcer In executing a horse.

The balance were tired by parties who had not the authority, and so far as can be learned, no occasion to do so. As a result of thin shooting, three men, two Mexicans and one negro, were seriously wounded. One man Is out on a $1000 bond, charged with -shooting the two Mexicans. No one has been arretted for shooting the negro preacher. This Is the record for the past week with the sixshooter toters.

OUR ASSORTMENTS ARE COM-PLETE AND PRICES ARE RIGHT. CITY FAN TAKERS PROTEST AGAINST THE FLAT RATE SYSTEM RECENTLY INAUGURATED BY THE CITY. There Is much complaint heard against the $3 Hal meter rate for office fans. Many citizens who have oftlce fans which are used only occasionally declare that this rate Is entirely too high, and say that they will file protests against it with the water and light commission. A well known physiciitn yesterday In conversation with a reporter for The Statesman stated that heretofore his office fan had only cost him $1.25 per month.

"A Jump from $1.21 to la" said he, "1 think Is an unreasonable increase." A number of other persons are of the same opinion as the physician, ami, no doubt the commission will hear many complaints, but they will play no favorites. All takers will be charged the same rates.
