Harrell played the part of Pretty Boy Floyd's father in the movie, "Pretty Boy," and on television he played a priest on Rod Serling's "Night Gallery." Recently, Harrell was seen in a television pilot entitled "Hernandez, Houston P.D.," which starred Henry Darrow Manolito of "The High ChapparaL" Harrell portrayed a police psychiatrist, Dr. Rabin. According to Harrell, it hasn't been decided whether or not to make the show into a series. Besides his movie and TV roles, Harrell has made a number of documentary films and television commercials.

"It's my agent, Peggy Taylor of Dallas, who's responsible," Harrell said in explaining his success. "She's gotten it to where I don't even have to audition a lot of the time." In addition to the film work, Harrell has done extensive work on the stage, including 40 plays for the Dallas Theater Center, where he received his master's degree. "I started my happy, longtime relationship with Paul Baker, director of the Dallas Theater Center, when I was an undergraduate student at Baylor University," Harrell points out. "Mr. Baker was head of Baylor's drama department then." Harrell also got to know another undergraduate at Baylor in those days prior to 1940 Ramsey Yelvington, SWT's playwright-in-residence.

Harrell later starred in Yelvingten's "Cockleburr" with another Baylor and Dallas Theater Center actor, CIu Gullager, who starred as Billy the Kid in the television show of the same name.
