26 WedneflSyJunee. 1951 Sakwrafirfi ffialffiJttttett Junior High Schools Will Graduate 1159 Tomorrow at 10 a.m., the four Junior high schools of the Bakersfield city school district will graduate a total of 1159 eighth graders. ^This is the largest graduating class 'in the. history of the Bakersfield city schools. Washington Junior High leads with 441 students; Emerson, 367; Golden State, 23:!; Lincoln, 113. Six students will graduate from the Hospital School at 1 p.m. tomorrow. Washington School Washington School graduation will be held at the Fox Theater. Washington graduates have chosen as their theme, "Cornerstones of Our Nation." Antonio Calvillo, student body president, will act as master of ceremonies. Reverend Charles E. Lord of the Trinity Methodist Church will give the invocation. Student speakers will be Nancy Paddock, who will speak on "Character"; Richard Shore, "Education"; Gail Horwitz, "Law"; and •Don Sullivan, "Freedom." Walter E. Peterson of the board of education; Sirs. Alfred Galland, past president of the Washington P.T.A.; and Herbert L. Blackburn, deputy superintendent of the Bakersfield city school district, will be guests on the program. Music will be by the Washington orchestra under the direction of Mrs. Catherine DerZak- arian. John Bees will lead the flag •alute. G. Hobert Krause is principal of the school. Fred Young, Jr. Golden State School Golden State School graduation exercises will be held at the Tejon Theater with "The Constitution, Our American Heritage" as the theme. Student speeches will be based on the Preamble of the Constitution of the United States. "In Order to Form a More Perfect Union" will be the subject of the speech by Dola White; "To Establish Justice," Charlene Jackson ; "To Assure Domestic Trau- quility" by Frances Powell, "To Provide for the Common Defense." Thomas Orton: "To Promote the General Welfare," Mary Turner: and "To Secure the Blessings of Liberty to Ourselves and Our Posterity," by Betty Bales. Alfonso Duarte, student body president, will act as master of ceremonies. The Golden State band under the direction of Manley Wood and the Glee Club, directed by Marian Sharp, will present musical numbers. The Reverend John Whiteneck of the First Congregational Church will give the invocation. Superintendent of Schools John L. Compton; and Allan A. Stramler, Jr., of the board of education will be gnest speakers with Stramler presenting the diplomas. J. Ted Chism, principal, will present the eighth grade class.
