' JUNE 12, 1948 BL™mu.K (AUK.) COURIER NEWS ** PAGE THREE I I <w 1 1 vss, 1 M x»- I 1 i V^ommunism in Russia deserves to be measured over against the intolerablg tyranny and oppression of the Czars; it may even be a step in advance of that which k replaced, .But Communism within the United States is quite a different thing. Here it appears as a threat to that great good that we call democracy; and worse still, it .reeks to overthrow UK Christian religion which has been the sure foundation of our freedom and our integrity. Toward Communism in Russia we may take an attitude of sympathy, hoping that a great nation will move on to higher ground, though we recognize the right of the Russian people to choose their own political and economic system. So we sny to each other, "Hands oft" of the internal affairs of other nations. But we ought to be mightily'concerned with the appearance of Communism in the U. S. A. Perhaps here, however, we ought to be on our guard against the reality rather than the name. It is one thing to belong to the Communist Party, which looks us squarely in the lace nnd announces its position. It is quite another and a more dangerous thing to be a Communist and not let it be known. It is the under cover Communism which threatens us most Oommunism sets itself up as a religion, denying God and ffte Christian Faith; h would close the doors of the Church. Do you support the Church, or could its doors clos* so far as you are concerned? There are sixty million people in this country who are not members of any Church; they are the Communists we should tear. Godless women and men, intent on themselves or some political party as the chief good, irreverent and devoted to material ends—these are the Communists whom we Americans Should fear and seek to change, .,,, w l Bo. < W***^^ This series of advertisements is being published each W cefc in the Courier New by the following, business establishment.: ARKANSAS ICE & STORAGE MISSISSIPPI CO LUMBER SWIFT AND CO.
