LOUIS iff} — International Shoe Co. officials expects 1955 to be a good year in sales volume and profits despite a four-week strike last month. James Lee Johnson, an International vice president, snid the strike effect on sales "was almost negligible for the most, part." He said the three general line branches of the firm showed sales increases during the strike period compared to the same period of last year, with a majority of the orders scheduled for future delivery. "It ts of interest to note that cancellations were light," Johnson said. "This is attributed to the apparent fact that our dealers had sufficient stock on hand to meet current demands." "In spite of the strike, the first in our history, we believe that 1955 will prove to be a Rood year. And we have every reapon to expect a record year in 1950—in sales volume—in profits—and in the production of shoes." The Strike by APL and CIO slice workers unions, end:d last week with a two-year contract calling for a total 8 per cent pay rajs' during the two years for the 11.00' union employes who haci been averaging about $1.20 an hour.
