Washkansky Suffers From Pneumonia CAPE TOWN, South Africa (AP) Louis Washkansky showed progress Monday in his recovery from a mild touch of pneumonia which doctors said showed no sign of troubling his transplanted heart. Washkansky was receiving heavy doses of penicillin. A spokesman at Groote Schuur Hospital said this would not increase the chances that his body might reject the foreign heart. Fifteen days after the first (successful human heart transplant operation, the 53-year-old wholesale grocer continues receiving other drugs to fight the body's tendency to reject foreign tissue. Doctors said this treatment lowered Washkansky's resistance to infection.

Pneumonia developed Saturday in his left lung, but Prof. Christian Barnard, who headed the transplant operating team, said Sunday: "I think we can get this infection under control in 24 hours." The chance of rejection has been considered the main problem all along. Except for the pneumonia, Washkansky has progressed steadily since the transplant. Doctors plan to (remove the stitches from his chest incision and permit him to walk this week. DAV and Aux.

Give Children's Holiday Party More than 100 persons attended the children's Christmas party of the Disabled American Veterans and Auxiliary Saturday evening in Memorial Hall.
