Stop hy-perventillating. The new Star Trek: Voyager series has found a home in Austin. As a matter of fact, it's found several homes. The series is the flagship of the new United Paramount Network, which debuts nationwide on independent stations Monday, Jan. 16.

But in Austin, most people will be able to catch Voyager in rebroadcasts Saturdays at 6 p.m. Diane holloway cludes two sitcoms, Platypus Man (at 8 p.m.), starring stand-up comic Richard Jeni as the host of a cable cooking show, and Pig Sty (8:30 p.m.), a sitcom about five slobbish roommates that stars five unknown actors. The Tuesday lineup on Paramount begins with Marker (at 7 p.m.), an action-adventure series from Stephen J. Cannell that's being filmed in Hawaii and stars Richard Grieco. Next on Tuesday nights will be The Watcher (at 8 p.m.), an anthology series set in Las Vegas that stars rapper Sir Mix-A-Lot.

As if anyone in Austin would This afternoon the University of Texas Longhorns take on the University of North Carolina Tar Heels in El Paso's Sun Bowl (at 1:30 p.m. on KTBC, Channel 7 Cable 2). Two other bowl games air tonight Florida's Gator Bowl (at 6:30 on TBS, Cable 21) with Virginia Tech going up against Tennessee and the Holiday Bowl (at 8 on ESPN, Cable 40) with Colorado State facing Michigan. Today's bowl games are just the tip of the iceberg, with a huge slew of bowl games coming Saturday and Sunday. New Year's Eve and New Year's Day are traditionally big days for couch potato football fans, and this weekend should be no exception.

None of the low-power stations is available on cable yet, although Wallace said they might all share one cable channel by spring or summer. "You can't ask for cable clearance until you're actually programming the stations," Wallace said. "We haven't even approached the cable company yet." The low-power stations have been rebroadcasting Channel 36's programming, but starting Jan. 9, they'll switch to carrying many of the programs that will be seen on Austin's new independent station KNVA Channel 54 (Cable 12), the house that Ron Oliveira built. The low-power Paramount affiliates will not carry KNVA's Wednesday night programming, however, since that belongs exclusively to another new network, this one owned by Warner Bros.

Television. The Warner Bros, two-hour block debuts Jan. 11 and includes the following comedies: The WayansBros. (at 7 p.m.), a brother sitcom starring Shawn and Marlon Wayans; The Parent 'Hood (7:30 p.m.), a family sitcom starring Robert Townsend; Unhappily Ever After (8 p.m.), a sitcom about divorce from the creators of Married With Children; and Muscle (8:30 p.m.), a serial sitcom set in a New York fitness club. Besides Voyager, United Para-mount's Monday-night lineup in Most people who live in Austin and want to see Voyager at 7 p.m.

when it premieres Jan. 16 can watch it on low-power station Channel 49, which is located downtown. Low-power stations, in general, are viewable within 10 miles from the station. The availability of Voyager is big news to Trekkers, but potentially bigger news to the burgeoning local television market is the emergence of the new low-power coalition and the arrival of the two new national networks. Besides Austin's low-power station, KXAN's other low-power stations in the Paramount chain will be Channel 40 in San Marcos, Channel 25 in Fredericksburg, Channel 21 in Giddings, Channel 32 in La Grange, Channel 48 in Georgetown, Channel 64 in Round Rock and Channel 61 in Bastrop.

"We've been putting these low-power stations on the air slowly but surely over the last three to four years," said KXAN general manager Jane Wallace. "They're all linked together by microwave, and they're going to be called the Hill Country Paramount Network." In anticipation of someday up-ping the power from low to high and acquiring handier call letters, the stations are calling themselves HPN (dropping the "Country" in Hill Country Paramount Network to make room for a if a future KHPN high-power station develops). f- on KXAN Channel 36 (Cable 4), starting Jan. 21. That's the same time Star Trek: The Next Generation ran on KBVO Channel 42 (Cable 5).

To make room for Voyager, Channel 36 is moving its Saturday newscast to 5 p.m., followed by NBC Nightly News at 5:30. Wheel of Fortune, which now airs at 6:30 Saturdays, will move to Sundays at 5 p.m. The entire lineup of new programs on the United Paramount Network, which will air in two-hour blocks on Monday and Tuesday nights, will be available on eight low-power stations scattered around Central Texas and operated by KXAN. Star Trek: Voyager is the flagship of the new United Paramount Network. Most Austinites will be able to catch Voyager in rebroadcasts Saturdays at 6 p.m.
