Causes of Hip Sway The slightest sway in the hips ruins any woman's carriage. It is caused either by muscular flabbiness in the hip region or incorrect walking habits. There's a sure cure for both. Let's start work on the weak muscles ith this exercise: Sit on a stool with your feet flat on the floor. Place your hands on the stool behind your hips.

Now, (this is difficult but worth it) by pushing up with your arms, raise your hips off the stool as you contract the hip muscles hard. Hold for a count of five if you can and then resume your normal sitting position. Start with five times daily and gradually increase to twenty-five. Also practice holding your elevated position until you can count to ten. In no time at all, you will firm your muscles so that they automatically remain still when you walk.

The walking habit that causes a hip-sway results from unconsciously throwing your entire weight from one foot to the other with each step. To detect such undulation, walk across the room with your hands on the fleshy part of your hips. Let all your weight plunk down on the forward foot. That is the wrong way to walk! Right Way to Walk Now, try it letting only half of your body weight fall on the forward foot. The remainder must be held suspended in the dead center of your body.

(Think of how the egret stands on one leg for long periods of time, without ever letting its weight get off center. With your shoes off, take slow steps, practicing the transfer of only half of your weight as you walk. Keep your hip muscles tense, so that you gain greater control over them at the same time you improve your balance. You will the walk others envy soon, admire! P. S.
