SENATORS DEFEAT ST. ED'S Game at Riverside Park Results in 12 to 2 Score Leaguers Score Almost at Will. The Austin Senators romped all over the St. Edward's College team by the score of 12 to 2 Saturday afternoon at Riverside Park. The result of the was never in doubt after the first inning, for the Austin players crossed the plate at will.

St. Edward's scored one run in the first half of the first, when Neill made a wild pitch to the catcher. Austin went them one better in their half of the first, and scored twice when Dupuy hit to center with the bases full. Five more runs were annexed in the sixth when the Senators ran wild on the bags. Walter Frantz dropped a fly to left which fell safe, and Koss scored fro mthird.

Dupuy and Frantz scored on Henninger's hard smash for two sacks. Joe Frantz's drive through third brought in two more. Six more tallies were made In the eighth on a fusillade of hits and errors. Harry Dupuy, in four time? nt bat. drove out one two-bagger and three clean singles.

Jack James, Henninger, Ross. Joe Frantz, and, in fact, the entire club hit the ball hard and fielded their positions well. The children "torn the Daf and Dumb Institute were the guests of the Austin club at the game and attended in a body. I Score by innings: R. H.

GALVESTON, March 13. The Galveston Pirates took an exciting 2 to 1 victory in the first big exhibition game of the season with the Yankees here today. Although outhlt by the Americans, the locals made their four singles count in the scoring. Harry Williams, the former Pirate first sacker, was given a gold watch and fob on his first trip to the plate. The score: R.

Louis Federal team, which car.ie over their its training quarters at Monroe, hy the score of 3 to 1. Hrennan. Hen-drix and Black worked three innings each fcr Chicago, while Manager Brown sent Herbert, Bushelman anil Bubcock to the rubber for an equal number of rounds. The same teams play again Sunday. Both Telephones 201 We-f Sixth EAST TAKING ON CLASS COMPETITION FOR SOME POSITIONS IS RATHER CLOSE.

Infield Seems to Be Settled Outfield Not Determined Finally Pitching Staff Still Doubtful. The local ball tossers are rapidly rounding into their normal form, and Manager Frantz is working them hard every day in order that they may be in the bftrt shape possible when the season opens. The infield Is now working like a clock and the personnel of basemen Is practically a settled thing. Manager Frantz has been covering first In great style, while Brain-ard has been fielding his position around the keystone sack perfectly. Brownlow looks like a fixture at short again this year, and there is no chance of Harry Dupuy being ousted from his porch at the third cushion.

The outfield will probably see one or more changes. The fight for outfield positions on the local club this year wiil probably be the hardest that has been waged in years. Bruce Ross, the fleet-footed Indian outfielder, Is hitting the ball hard and gathering them in in great style, while the work of Henninger, the Austin lad of City-League fame, has been of the phenomenal order, both at bat and in the field. Then there is Mulholland, the big boy from Victoria, who Is a good hitter and an excellent fly chaser. He Is coming in for his share of attention and will give some gardener a hard struggle for the job.

Jesse James Looms Strong. Jesse James, the hard hitting outfielder and veteran of many seasons, is bound to loom up strong for his part of outfield territory, and if he Is beaten out of his Job it will be for the first time in many moons. Jack James, youngest brother of the venerable Jesse, has also been pastiming in the outer gardens, although he is a first baseman by trade, and Is a likely looking candidate for one of the positions. Bill Frantz both an Inflelder and an outfielder and has shown up well during the training season. He Is a husky youngster and hit the ball square on the nose.

McCullem, who has been doing about all of the backstop-plng so far, is also a good outfielder and may be shifted to the gardens upon the arrival of Haigh. McCullem Is a versatile player and is perfectly at home in any position. Wende, the tall boy from Manehaca. can also do outfield duty in a classy manner, although he has been working out a catcher. Another year of seml-profe-lonal or Class I ball will probably prepare him for this or faster company.

Catcher Halgh is expected lo arrive Sunday and will don the mask and pad at once. A good guess at the regular catchers for this year would be Haigh and Joe aFrantz. McCtillem is sure to be found on the local roster when the bell lings for the opening game, but will probably be found in an outfield position. One thing Is certain, he will be a regular member of the club for 1914. Joe Frantz' Arm in Trouble.

Joe Frantz has been working under a decided disadvantage, as ids throwing arm is not In toe best of shape yet. The next, two weeks of (raining should remedy that, however, and find him doing some of the classiest back-stonping in the circuit. The pitching staff has not rounded into share as yet. hut some Idea as to what lingers will earn their meal tickets in Austin will probably be gotten during the next week of practice. Clemens.

Lohman, Rhodes. Await, Ritchie. Neill, Bob Smith, Walnwright, Clark and Rives are the tnirlers who are essaying to the membership of the club. Thomas and Byrne, outfielders, will probably be sold to some club In the Texas-Oklahoma League. The cafe of Hflle, last year a third baseman, has been worrying the local magnates a great He wiil rcioit in Austin In the near future, hut the position which he will play has not been decided.

Hille Is a great third baseman and can shoot the bail across the diamond like a bullet, but he ran hardly best Harry Dnrny out of hl Job at that position. He Is a valuable man and will either he placed in the outfield or sold. The club owners should have no trouble in finding a buyer In case of his not winning a berth In the outfield.
