DANGEROUS MINDS (ABC, Sept. 30) Unrealistic, perhaps, to think that one small woman could change the lives of two dozen inner-city toughs, but Annie Potts is thoroughly believable as the Marine-turned-teacher whose motto is "You do what you can." Fine production values, realistic (if sometimes disturbing) language and a hip-hop musical score make this series soar. DARK SKIES (NBC, Sept. 21) Touting itself as "alternative history," this intriguing drama proposes that aliens invaded the United States in 1947 when a spacecraft crashed in RoswelL N.M. The first episode takes place in the '60s as congressional aide Loengard (Eric Coach Common Law Early Edition Second Noah Dr.

Quinn, Medicine Woman Relativity Walker, Texas Ranger Profiler () NBC Clueless The Pretender Married wChildren" Love Marriage Dark Skies Cops FOX mother (Patricia Heaton) juggle three kids (including 20-month-old twins) and Ray's nosy parents, played by Doris Roberts and Peter Boyle. But the writing is terrific, and the cast is excellent. Don't miss Ray's mother's bizarre objections to membership in the Fruit of the Month Club: "It's a cult!" EZ STREETS (CBS, Premiere not set) sion to lazy viewers, so pay attention. Ken Olin stars as a police detective determined to prove his dead partner wasn't corrupt; Jason Gedrick (formerly of "Murder co-stars as a street thug trying to go straight A haunting musical score, fine acting and suspenseful script. INK (CBS, Oct 21) Stars Ted Danson and Mary Steen-burgen, a real-life married couple playing divorced newspaper colleagues, were unhappy with the pilot screened for critics and rightly so it wasn't funny Worse, the stars had no chemistry.

The series is being reworked from a script that is said to be much better. Let's hope so. JAMIE FOXX (WB, debuted Aug. 28) The former "In Living Color" player stars as a young man who moves to Los Angeles to break into show biz but winds up working at his aunt's and uncle's hotel Foxx's Close) and his girlfriend Kimberly (Megan Ward) discover a shady group's efforts to keep the invasion a secret from the president and the public. Despite its early time slot, this show is scary and sometimes gruesome but good.

EARLY EDITION (CBS, Sept. 28) Suppose you picked up the morning newspaper and realized you had the next day's news in your hands. You could win millions in the lottery. You also could save the lives of people headed for disaster. That's the position a former stockbroker, played by Kyle Chandler, finds himself in in this gentle, feelgood drama that families will enjoy.

Fisher Stevens, as a greedy pal, adds humor. EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND (CBS, Sept. 13) Well, maybe not everybody, but a lot of people will enjoy the antics of this hopelessly conciliatory family man, played by comedian Ray Romano. Night Live" player Garrett Morris as the uncle. Unamusing insult and sex jokes abound.

LIFE WITH ROGER (WB, debuted Aug. 25) An "Odd Couple" wannabe starring Maurice Godin and Mike 0'-Malley, this is the only new WB comedy with any humor at all -r-and that's not saying much. The two actors work well together, but they need better writing and sets that aren't made of cardboard. UFE'S WORK (ABC, Sept 17) Unavailable for preview, this sitcom stars talented comedian Lisa Ann Walter, who had a failed sitcom on Fox last year. Apparently Hollywood has a hard time figuring out what to do with this offbeat, Bette Midler-type.

In her ABC.show, she plays a wife and mother who becomes a prosecutor and struggles to balance home and career. LOVE MARRIAGE (FOX, Sept 28) i Paired with the inexplicably pop Debrah Farentino and Ken Olin in the suspenseful 'EZ Arguably the best drama pilot of the season, but also one that re quires patience and a tolerance for violence. The dark story line is Shanesia Davis and Kyle Chandler talent is wasted in the pilot, which features 'Saturday' qu tsr.aO sift no alierJ taa stv gitiv; imm $vwa Uyi-VP.
