Cmr State Austin American-Statesman B4 Tuesday, August 22 1995 Handicap-parking law deputies ready to defend sacred spaces .1 fir-- Accident involving two tractor-trailers snarls northbound 1-35 traffic American-Statesman Staff Two tractor-trailers crashed on Interstate 35 south of the Woodland Avenue exit Monday, shutting down northbound lanes during rush hour while crews cleaned approximately 100 gallons of spilled diesel fuel, authorities said. Northbound traffic was rerouted onto the frontage road as Austin Fire Department crews shoveled the fuel into barrels and swept up the rest after using sand to soak it up. The crash occurred about 3:50 p.m. when the driver of a truck in the left lane swerved into the concrete median wall to avoid slamming into a truck that had stopped in front of him, said police Sgt. Jim O'Leary.

The swerving truck then bounced away from the median and into the side of a truck that was stopped because of heavy traffic, O'Leary said. No injuries were reported. The highway was reopened at 6:55 p.m., police said.
