SEHViCK STAT1OX Consumer In buying petroleum products from the various sources available the consuming public should, educate and acquaint themselves to the various style devices ill use the service station. Just rcmembei that each divicc is mechanical in ihe hands of an attendant. careful and honest type of an attendant seldom has many difficulties with his equipment foe- he is careful to keep them in condition so that they will deliver the quantities which you ask for and receive. On the other hand the careless and shiftless attendant is not being honest with himself or you as a customer.

He may even short you to a greater extent than the dishonest attendant of which there are very few. Therefore it is well that the several devices used in connection with the various type pumps and other equipment be studied. It will be found that each is a "tell tale" device of some form. If you cannot readily understand their use it be well to consult your local sealer. A few suggestions are listed below: Be sure that the'gasoline pump is at zero before delivery is begun.

If a visible type pump, determine if the hose should or should not be drained. A "wet hose" is one which is full of liquid at all times and has the control at the extreme end. A "dry hose" is the type that must be drained in order to complete the delivery. If the pump is of the blind type (not employing the visible bowl) it has some form or "tell tale" or device to show that the system is full. Determine in what manner this should operate.

Transmission and scar lubricants arc delivered from measuring devices which should indicate the quantities they deliver or should have a sign attached in p. conspicu ous manner which informs tn amount to be delivered. Other types of pumping devices for kerosene, fuel oils and other li quid products arc, in the mos cases, measuring units of the blind type. EC sure that they arc at tht zero position before and after de livery as this completes the cycle for which 1 they were designed. Oil is delivered in several ways to the purchasing public and cart should be taken that the measure is not dented.

Canned oil is a "packaged" product and must havx the contents plainly marked on the outside of the container. Oi! bottles are used to a great extent In filling stations and it is well to note if the bottles are properly filled This applies to all measures as well. Oil is a viscous liquid and ample time should be allowed for complete draining. Service Station Oper.ilors The 'following rules are ones Sunday In Sault Churches FIRST BAPTIST CHUKCH arold Hayward. Accurate measure and satisfied customers should be the attendant's concern and, this being true, close ad- herance to the following rules will help your business. Gasoline Pumps Always prime each pump each morning before serving customers. Visible "wet hose" (nozzle at the end of hose) type of pumps will not give accurate measure unless hosc is completely full of liquid.

Remember that a drained hose at night will not fill the following morning by merely filling the glass pw'- Hosc contains "compressed air" from bend in hose upward to nozzle. To eliminate this air open nozzle into "night drain" or container or measure and draw off five gallons (when bowl full) com plctely fill the hose by washing out all air. Visible pumps must alwavs be full before deliveries arc made. In other words, always start from the zero mark. Just remember, this is the accurate way as well as saving time and customer arguments.

Old style, hand-operated, blind and meter type electric pumps may have leaky foot valves. sure and prime each morning and more often if necessary. All visible pumps must be exactly plumb at all times to deliver accurately. This means markers must show the of linuirf or the same "bubble." I 1'AIUSH Vf, Combcllacfc.
