Himes, pastor, perform sd the double-ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles O'Shell Sr. of New Florence.

The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Deemer of RD 1 Bolivar. Presented in marriage by her father, the bride was attired in a floor length gown of white polyester fabric featuring a high neckline, long sleeves with tight fitting cuff and an overlay of lace on the full skirt. She carried an arrangementof red roses and white carnations.

Her maid of honor was Mary McGin-nis who was attired in a gown of light blue. She carried an arrangement of blue and white carnations. Frank Phillips was best man and ushers were Charles O'Shell, brother of the bride; and Wade Deemer, brother of the bridegroom. Ringbearers were Timmy O'Shell and Cory Kaufman, nephews of the bride. Mrs.

Betty Trump was organist. A reception was held in the church social room. The newlyweds are residing in Memphis, Tenn. where the bridegroom is stationed with the Navy. They are both 1976 graduatesof Laurel Valley High School.

Smithley of Bolivar R.D. 1, celebrated their 25th Anniversary on Feb. 9. A surprise party was held Feb. 6 at the Fairfield Community Center.

The party was given by their children: Donald J. married to the former Billie Sue Taylor, Richard E. married to the former Emma Mae McKlveen, Randy and Kathi both at home. They have one grandchild, Ronald. Also helping to celebrate the occasion were Gladys Smithley of Latrobe, mother of Mr.

Smithley, and Venna Rolley of Bolivar, Mrs. Smithley's mother. About 60 other friends and relatives attended the celebration. Mr. Smithley is self-employed with Smithley Construction Co.

Mrs. Smithley is the former Alice Rolley of West Bolivar. AFS student speaks at club Mauro Riva of Italy, an American Field Service student attending Laurel Valley High School, spoke to members of the New Florence Women's Club. Also taking part in the program were Lydia Hughes and Apryl Norris, students at Laurel Valley High School who took part in the sewing contest sponsored by the Westmoreland County Federation of Women's Clubs. The president, Helen Swateworth, appointed Inez Super, Catherine Howard, and Lillian Powell to the nominating committee. The organization gave donations to the Laurel Valley Chapter of the American Field Service and American Heart Association. Among the special guests were Mr.

and Mrs. Harry Ruffner. Mr. Ruffneris a retired fireman. PTO news Mrs.

Leora Krise's third grade room won the attendance banner a the Ma rch 8 meeting of the New Florence Parent-Teacher Organization. A record player with tapes and earphones has been purchased for use in Mrs. Martha Adams' first grade. The organization has allotted money for the care of the shrubbery at the local elementary school. A benefit card party was held March 12 in the Community Center.

The next meeting will be on April 12 and its topic will be "poison Given surprise party Mrs. Lottie Rummel of Fifteenth Street, was given a surprise party by her children, honoring her on her 79th birthday. The party was held Mar. 13, at the New Florence Fire Hall. There were 45 in attendance, including all of her nine children, several brothers and sisters, along with grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

Her children are George, Ernie, Kenneth, and Emma, of RD 1 New Florence; Elda, Harold and Marion, New Florence; Lester, Ligonier; and Athalene; Jacksonville, Fla. dent loan scholarship this year. Mary Ambrose presented the Club with a desk type American Flag as a gift from the Fort Ligonier Chapter of the DAR. She also announced that the District 3 Spring meeting will take place in Brad-dock Hills, April 16, at the Holiday Inn. The Elast Liberty BPW Club will hostess the meeting: A delegation from the Ligonier Club will attend the meeting.

Thelma Nicely announced the appointment of a Nominating Committee to prepare a slate of candidates for the election of officers for the coming year. Eileen Herd will chair the committee and be assisted by Mary Ambrose and Margaret Horrell. The February birthday remembrances to "Meals on Wheels" recipients were sent to Mrs. John Jenkins and Charley Stough, of Darlington, and to lai An kney of Rector. The April meeting will be held at the Town House on the 19th, with Marie Homrocky, Membership Chairperson, in charge of the program.

She will be assisted by June Millison, Alice Barron, and Doris St. Clair. A membership drive will be in progress April through June. The theme of "Women Helping Women" will be stressed. LIGONIER The March meeting of the Ligonier Business and Professional Women's Club was held at St.

James Lutheran Church. Shun Kawabata, AF student from Japan, and his American mother, Mrs. Russell Goodlin, were dinner guests. Shun gave a slide talk about home life and K'ustoms-tn Japanese educational system, and Nagasaki, hjs home city. His hobbies are the raising of 200 varieties of cacti and raising fish.

Pic-tures were shown of these activities. A number of slides were of school buildings on hillsides, students in class rooms, and athletic facilities, including roof tops. Shun said all students wearun-llorms. In answer to questions he described his American teachers as "more like big brothers," but said that Japanese teachers had more authority. He studied English for five years before coming to America, Shun said, because all Japanese children begin to study English in the seventh grade.

In the ninth grade, he explained, students take examinations for admission to a high school and about 90 per cent pass and go on to finish high school. Shun plans to go to college to become an economist.
