It takes concentration and an open mind to recognize their wacky potential, but it's there for determined viewers to discover. ABC's "Bosom Buddies," in which Hanks and Scolari portray Kip and Henry respectively, was one of the season's predictable casualties.

But, according to the network's entertainment chief, Tony Thomopoulos, the series is "still under consideration for the future." If fortune shines, what this foggy statement could mean Is that the series will be overhauled to highlight the complimentary talents of Hanks and Scolari and get rid of all that excess female flesh and "drag" clothing. The original concept for the series, which can be witnessed in tonight's repeat of the pilot episode (at 7:30 p.m. on KVUE-TV, Channel 24), is a thinly veiled and poorly developed rip-off of "Some Like It Hot," with Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis disguised as women to hide from gangsters. In the TV series, Kip and Henry are forced into drag for economic reasons when their cheap apartment is demolished. Amy (Wendy Jo Sperber), who has a crush on Henry and works for the same ad agency, helps sneak them into an apartment in her cheap building, which happens to be the Susan B.

Anthony Hotel for Women. Kip lusts after Amy's roommate, Sonny (Donna Dixon), the obligatory busty blonde, and Henry envisions a best-selling book about their bizarre experience. The drag gag gets old half-way through the half-hour pilot, but a glimmer of hope has blossomed into full-scale promise during the season. Hanks and Scolari have that much-talked about but seldom seen magic quality referred to as "chemistry." The ease with which these fellows bounce lines off each other comes from a real-life closeness or incredible instinct. Whatever the source, they Aavethat special "chemistry." We see this kind of made-to-order comedy pairing all too rarely.
