TUESDAY, DECEMBER T, 1954 PAGE TWO Work Falls Behind Schedule on Giant Soviet Power Plant MOSCOW (AP) — Work has fallen behind schedule on Russia's proudest enterprise — the giant Kuibyshev hydro- • electric plant on the Volga River, which the Soviets call the world's biggest. 4 _________A speedup has been ordered so that the plant can be put in operation in 1955. They're -Irendy been working on it five years. The order is disclosed in Pravda, the Communist party newspaper, i How are they going to get it done? The most drastic step rms been to cut down the administrative, or white collar, personnel on the project and send surplus desk jockeys out to wield picks and shovels. Pravda says the job can be done in time if everybody now patriotically "goes to work earnestly and harder to fulfill this task of the motherland to make the station begin operating in 1955." 10 Billion Kilowatts Pravda says Kuibyshev will have a capacity of 2,100.000 kilowatts and "every year it will deliver to Industry and agriculture 10 billion kilowatts of power." In and about the complex of plants, says "Pravda. they've already constructed 250 miles of railway and 125 miles of mot,or highways. "Now construction has entered its decisive period," Pravda says. "The tempo is increasing from day to day—but they are still lagging behind the plan. The construction administration did not utilize full facilities and it is now neces. sary to improve the quality of direction. With this aim. they arc reducing the administration personnel ..." To help Kuibyshev along—and the Soviet electric power industry in general—the Malenkov government recently created a new cabinet nlinistry'for electric plant construction. Feodor G. Loginov was named its head. After rending this brief outline, you may decide that AA has nothing to offer you. Should this be the case, we suggest only (hat you keep an open mind on the subject. Consider your drinking carefully in the light of what you may learn from (bese articles. Determine, for yourself, whether or not alcohol has truly become a problem for you. And remember that you will always be most welcome to join the thousands of men and women in AA who have put their drinking problems behind them and now lead "normal" lives of constructive, day-by-day sobriety. We in AA are men and women who have discovered, and admitted, that we cannol control alcohol. \Ve have learned that we must live without it if we are to avoid disaster for ourselves and those close to us. With local groups in thousands of communities, we are part of an informal international fellowship with members in more than -10 countries. We have but one primary purpose: to slay sober ourselves and to help others who may turn to us for help in achieving sobriety. We are not reformers and we are not allied with any group, cause or religious denomination. We have no wish to dry up the world. We do not recruit members. We avoid imposing our viewpoint on problem drinking on others, unless we arc asked to do so. Within our membership may be found men and women of varying age groups and many different social, economic and cultural backgrounds. Some of us drank many years before coming to the realization we could not handle alcohol. Others were fortunate enough to appreciate, early in life or in our drinking careers, that alcohol had become unmanageable. ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS Box 873 Blytheville, Ark.
