He was a native of Massachusetts. Obituary. Fir3t Lieutenant Frederick Eaton Crosman, 17th United States Infantry, one of tbe bravest manliest, most gallant young officers of onr small ot Regulars, was killed in tbe battle of tbe 19th of August, at the Weldon Railroad, near Virginia. He was only twenty-three1 years of age, but was already widely known among his brother army officers as a valuable friend, an upright gentleman, and as true, noble, efficient and gallant as any of the many brave men ho have tendered their -services and lives to tbe'r country in her great trouble and need. Tbe service cannot spare such men, for they cannot be replaced.

Lieut. Crosman belonged to a family of which all tbe male members are rendering valuable talents and services to the Government. His. father is Colonel George H. Crosman, Assistant Quartermaster General U.

S. Army. Lieutenant Commander Alexander F. Crosman, U.S. Navy, and Captain Geo.

Crosman, 10th Regular Infantry, his brothers. At the time of hisJ death he was actings Adjutant of his regiment, and as an illustration of the severity of tbe engagement, tbe regiment brought out of tbe fight only two officers and thirty-three Lieut, C. was married but' seven short months ago, to Miss Josephine Phillips, of Pittsburgh daughter of the late Captain Phillips of tbe army.
