MORRIS MARX. SeeY Washiraton. D. (ct. efforts of pro-1 hibition bureau officials to prevent the farts from being published, it has been learned that at least one of the four killers recently indicted for the murder of Charles V.

Gundlach during an alleged unauthorized raid on the Gund lath farm in southern Niaryland owes his atppointment to the influence the Women's Christian Temperance Union. The four agentsJoseph 11. Brewer. nano M. Jackley, John T.

Fisher Jr. Robert F. Cornett Jr.were in-dieted in a St. Mary's county. Mary- i land court several weeks ago after 1 Gundlach's widow had told how her husband was shot down when he resisted the attempt of the agents to raid his home without a search warrant.

In apit of the widow's story that Brewer deliberately shot her busband dead after the latter had slumped dawn under a hail of bullets and was pleading Zr help, federal district attorneys rushed to the aid of the indicted agents. Released on Federal Judge Morris A. Soper in naltimore was induced to assume jurisdietion and vrrits of habeas corpus Issued by Judge Soper took the men out of the custody of the Maryland S7ate authorities. They were aubsequently released on bonds to await a final disposition of the habeas corpus proceedings. Meanwhile every inquiry at prohibition headquarters has been met with a lat refusal to make public any part of the records of the four agents or to disclose what political or other influence secured places for them the dry law enforcement machine.

Iligh Metals of the bureau insisted that the records of the quartet and the identities of their sponsors were atriaiy confidential and would not be revealed. Favored by W. C. T. C.

From other reliable sources, however, it was learned that Jackley, who comes from Cameron, W. was highly recommended to the prohibition bureau by the Rev. W. E. Fierce, a Cameron, W.

clergyman, and Mrs. Eba Cook, treasurer of the I'Comen's Christian Temperance union, In the same town. These recommendations. it was disclosed, were seconded by W. H.

Soper, one of the leading bankers of Cameron. Jackley, prior to the Gundlach killing, had been stationed at various times in Norfolk, Wheeling, W. Cumberland, and Washington. Brewer, who, Mrs. Gundlach asserted.

stepped boldly over her husband's dead body and demanded the guns which Gundlach had used in the fatal attempt to defend his home against an tznwarranted intrusion, was born and' reared in southern Maryland, in the vicinity of Leonardtown and near the Gundlach farm. He entered the dry service in November. 1925, and was assigned to ferret out the law violators among his former neighbors. 1 7 1 1 Louis nueckheim, first vice president of the Cracker Jack company and a eteran of the Franco-Prussian war of 1870, died yesterday at his country home near Lakeside, Mich, after a two weeks' illness of pneumonia- He was 78 years old. Following his release from the German military service Mr.

Ilueckhm came to Chicago and with his brother, Frederick, established a confectionery manufacturing business' in 1872. In 1896 the brother introduced the confection known as Cracker Jack. Frederick becoming president of the company and Louis vice president. Mr. Rueckheim resided at GIS Sheridan square, Evanston.

He was a memft ber of the Illinois Athletic, Diana Hunting and Chickaming Country clubs. He is survived by his widow. Margaret, and his daughters. Mrs. Fred Warren, Mrs.

Richard White, and Lillian Rueckheirn. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p. ra. in St. James Methodist church, 4611 Ellis avenue.

Burial will be at Oakwood cemetery. Smash Doors. They watched with excitement while doors were smashed, but apparently got little kick out of the fact that the only indication even remotely resembling liquor was a highly suspicious odor. The police' acceunted for their lack of success with the explanation that the persons raided evidently kept their liquor to the sink and poured it out when the raiding party The raiders, armed almost to the teeth with automatics, night sticks. and a sledge hammer, did not return entirely empty handed, however, as they came across two colored residents violating another law and took them to the police station.

Of the five places raided, four were inhabited by colored people. Flguren in "Showdown." Immediately prior to the raids, Douthltt participated in a showdowt conference with United States Marshal Edgar Snyder regarding charges that one of Snyder's deputies is a bootlegger. The charge was made by E. M. Ellison, sscretary of the association, but he was reluctant to submit the proofs." Following the conference, both Douthitt and Snyder stated that no complete evidence had been produced against any deputy.

"Douthitt said he had not the complete evidence to back up Ellison's charge," said Snyder, and he refused to give the name of the man involved. I intend to demand from Dr. Ellison the evidence he has." APPLEQUISTCharles Applequist. beloved brother of Ben, Ernest. Mrs.

stirred by published reports that Princess Ileana had eloped with a young naval lieutenant, Queen Marie tonight issued this statelnent: I am pained and indignant that it is possible for any one to spread such idiotic and caluminous tales. Since King Ferdinand's death, Deana has never left my side. We are constant companions and cannot do without each other. Ileana's earnest sense of duty and love for me is a guarantee that she will always be the pride of her country and the royal family." Ever since the sensational report of Ileana's elopment appeared in American and European newspapers, the queen and palace officials have been flooded with inquiries about the report The queen. however was silent until tonight.

It has grown to be the greatest of its kind in America. It had an extraordinary beginning. It was born of a revolutionary idea. It has grown great because this idea has fitted in perfectly with public demand for something better in methods, manners and equipment at funerals. Today, as'on every day since MRS.

EMMA S. RITTENHOUSE IS TAKEN BY DEATH the small beginning, a "Hursen" funeral is at once recognized, because of that indefinable something which spells elegance, superior thought, superior service, superior quality, superior attention, superior environment, superior equipment. You see and feel this superiority whenever you witness or attend a "Hursen" funeral.
