Republican candidate for senator from Illinois, successfully over the primary barrier and running far ahead of the field, the feminine candidates In yes- 1 competition at the polls last night discovered that what they had lost in numbers they had made up IT) political prestige. Interest in the senatorial contest delayed returns on other state and county nominations until, a late hour, but it appeared certain at midnight that a representative group of women had survived to run again in November.

From the feminine point of view the chief defeat of the primary was the failure of Mrs. Lottie Holman O'Neill of Downers Grove to garner sufficient support to defeat her ore ponent on the G. O. P. state senatorship ballot, Richard Barr of Joliet.

Mr. O'Neill, a veteran of four terms In the lower house at Springfield, startled the electorate a year ago when she broke with Mrs. McCormick referring to the latter as a Mrs. O'Neill is prominently allied legislation for women. Barr Is the present senator from their district, the 4Ist.
