A Thriller in 1893. In 1893 the sensation of the Midway was a sleek, dark haired oriental beauty. Her dance, billed as daring- and exotic, seemed all of that to a generation which hadn't even dreamed of fan dances 2, nd strip teasers. When visitors went home from the fair they always whispered to friends, "Don't miss Little Egypt's dance." Little Egypt's maiden name was Yahreda Meltzer. She came to this country early in 1893 with a troupe rf Syrian performers who had been engaged for the World's Fair.

In her dame she wore a heavy skirt and thick brassiere, but seemed the height of allure to the awe struek patrons. Always a Puzzle to Her. Mrs. Spyropoulos never could understand her rise to fame and the fact that her stage name became symbolic of the exposition. There is still pending in court a damage suit which she brought against the Metro-Goldwyn -Mayer corporation, e1iirging her name was tarnished in the version of Little Egypt in the motion picture "The Great Ziegfeld." I did not have any vulgarity like they have today," she declared.

"No nakedness. They used naked girls in the picture in connection with my neme." In 1933 Little Egypt made several zppearances at A Century of Progress. 1 LAUGHLIN CHILD BRIDE MRS. OVERDIER, THOS. LMCOLN HOTEL'S BUILDER, IS DEAD 86, ROGERS PARK I KILLS HERSELF; 4.
