This scholar-athlete, or athletic scholar, also earned his letter for his three seasons of eligibility in football, participating during that time in all but two of the big games.

Then he was out with injuries. Oliphant was a most dependable wing man, both on offense and de. cense, of the type recognized and appredated both by his own and opposition coaches. That be, perhaps, did not receive all the publicity his play merited was due, in part, to the Northwestern system which calls for the right end to act as decoy far down the field on forward passes while the left end receives the toss. G. At isiom entry. Soccer enthusiast; think an attendance record for the sport will be set in Chicago this month. because of two big matches on the schedule. One is today's Peel cup final between the Bricklayers, western champions, and Sparta at Kuppenheimer stadium, 19th street and Keeler avenue.

The other is the international match between the Glasgow Celtics and the Brickies Cubs' park on June 21. Today's match between Sparta and the Drickies is expected to be a bard struggle. has won the cup three times in a row and if they win today he Bohemia ns will have ve eIualed the mark established by Pullman in winning the trophy in 1912. 1913. 1914.

and 1915. Alyssum Runs Gamely. Alyssum was game enough to hold er advantage until the ends and a few long shot players cashed in on her. She was fast and game in this race, even though she may never run such a race again. Cousin Jo had late epeed, and only for the badly judged ride by James would have been the winner.

The others were never contenders. Sunny Lassie from New York was always back with the rear guard. She onnd up next to last in the field of seven. Overlay ran fourth and silver Beauty was the one to bring Up the rear. The Oaks hail a gross value of nearly $13,000, and Cousin Jo, which had won all ber previous starts this season, was always the favorite and Would have paid little better than even money if she had won.

Leiter Filly Ins. There was thrilling racing earlier in the afternoon. Joe Leiter's yellow and green Jacket was carried to victory as the program opened when six of the most fashionable 2 year old Mlles here clashed In the Wild Rose purse. Princess Camelia, a daughter of Royal Canopy-Sun Melia, was the Leiter color bearer and she lasted just long enough to get the decision by a couple of whiskers. Mr.

Leiter. in his i tall gray hat, and all his friends gave the Princess a mighty ovation as she beat Sunrise by the narrow margin. Marcasite, owned by Mrs. William Zeigler Jr. of New York and heavily backed, managed to get up in time to 4 claim third money.

The popular James rode Princess Camelia to her triumph and the Leiter filly paid $9.66 for a two dollar ticket. danies Repeats in Second. James came right hack and rode Black Comet in the second race, bringing another victory at the end of the furlongs. Black Comet beat Beautiful Doll, a field horse, by a length and a. half.

with the favorite Portmanteau third. Black Cornet paid $10.14 for a two dollar ticket. Sweep All made amends for his bad race here a few days ago when be laughed home a winner by five lengths, eased up, from Jimmy Moran In the Jackson Boulevard purse at a mile. Sweep All was the odds on favorite, paying $3.50 In the mutuels. Ile never left the result in doubt.

Jockey Earl Pool took him to the front when Starter Morrisey gave them the word and Sweep All was always far in the lead. He ran the mile in 1:44 4-5, and again looms up as a dangerous American Derby contender. Cheer Paul Bunyan. Paul tunyan, the winner of the Dixie handicap in Maryland early last month. brought the crowd up cheering as he galloped from far back andwon the Outer Drive purse.

Despite his mud running reputation. oil Paul was at 4 to 1 in the betting. Satin Spar having- been the favorite and Lay Blades the second choice. Paul Bunyan was running last in the field of five as the stretch battle started. Jockey Clianelloni brought Bunyan up on the extreme outside and Satin Spar and Ray Blades, which had been fighting it out for the lead.

hardly knew what was happening 'Inwhen Paul dashed past them. lie beat atin Spar by more than two lengths. Blades was a Pelf dozen lengths back in third place. Bunyan looked like a champion, but doesn't seem to be able to run those brilliant races except when the track is muddy. 5 Signs Eastern Stars.
