Purvis dashes and Jong passes helped to pile up the points which enabled the Boilermakers to keep the old oaken bucket, the trophy which each year goes to the winner of the battle between the Hoosiet elevens.

Purdue probably would have been willing to donate the bucket after the gam if it could have shared the championship with Michigan, but that tie game with Northwestern ruined titular ambitions of the undefeated Boilermakers. tAcm Phot. Elco-h Champaign, 111., Nov. 19. In the sray half -light of Memorial etadlum li-re this afternoon, three minutes before Illinois anJ Ohio State were to finish another desperate and thrilling football battle, a ghostlike figure clad in the scarlet Jersey ot a Buckeye appeared on the playing field. He lirted his ghostlike right foot, planted It squarely against a football. The football sailed over and between the goal posts.

Ohio State, true to all the traditions of heart throbbing last minutes victories between the ancient rivals, had beaten the University of Illinois. 3 to 0. in the 1332 chapter of their gridiron warfare. The scarlet clad ghost was Mickey Vurhlnich, a lanky kid from Vander-giift. who plays full back for Ohio State.

He Is a junior In the col-loe of commerce and had played desperately to beat down the stubborn Ulllnl throughout the first three quarters of the game. They Call Dack Mickey. Then, when It looked as If the issue was to end In a deadiock. Vuchinich was sent to the side lines for a breathing spell. He had been on the bench shivering in his big scarlet coat only a few minutes when his Buckeye ttammates started drive down toward the Illinois goal line.

The drive came after both teams had fought for every inch of ground In the center of the field and an ex-channe of punts had put the ball in Ohio's possession on its own 45 yard line. Then the mighty Hinchman passed to Cramer. It was a beautiful toss and when Cramer was down the ball was on the Illinl 44 yard line. Carroll spun through left guard for 6 jards more. "Wetzel smashed down the field to the Illinois 24 yard line and a second later Hinchman, playing with the fury of a wild man, splintered the Illinois line for another 6 yards.

It was Cramer again and when he was brought down with a thud by an Illinois tackier Ohio State had the ball or. the Illinois 14 yard line and it was first down again. -Hold 'em, Illinois," was the shriek which went up from the Illinois side of the field. Illinois held. On three plays the Buekeys gained 4 yards.

Over the Bar It Goes. Vuchinich, the ghost, trotted out from the darkness cf the Ohio State bench. He replaced Wetzel, who had been substituting for him. The Buckeyes lined up. Cramer held the ball, Vuchinich booted the place kick, and the game was won.
