Page 4--The Gallup (NM) Independent--Feb. 17, US Faculty Take On Harlem Clowns Tonight GALLUP (SlaK) It'll be comedy lime tonight as the Harlem Clowns fake on the Gallup High School faculty. The Gallup team will include such Illustrious ballh.andlers as Bill Marley, Prenlis Jo.nes, Gl- yr.n Brandon, Bruce Peck, Larry Vcnderty, Bud Hendrikson anti 4 ringer from Gallup Junior High, Bob Holmes. The game will begin at 8 p.m. at the Gallup High School gym.

The profits from the game will be used by the Gallup club to help pay for a senior etterman trip this spring. The history of the Harlem -Clowns goes back to 1935 when Al "Runt" Pullins and two other players split with the original Harlem Globetrotters and took out on their own. Pullins was a member of the first and original Trotters team, organized in 1929 by the late Abe Sapersteln. Abe had just five players and Pullins was the star scorer along with Inman Jackson, both considered by Abe as two of his greatest play-1' ers in (lie long history of (hat I world famous combine. After making basketball history at Wendell Philips i School in Chicago.

After four years of barnstorming anil helping originate the type of exhibition basketball that has made belli the Trotters and the Clowns famous, Pullins formed Ms own team. Organized for the 1935-35 season, the Harlem Clowns today have the distinction of being the second oldest professional barnstorming basketball team in ex- islence.
