48 May 24, 1963 AFL SCHEDULE lyrliogafyie, VaSSep BAY MEADOWS CHARTS Copyright, 163, Trlinglt Publications, Inc. (Dally Racing Form) Jim Beatty, Snell Meet In Big Mile City Ssis Opaner Mateo, Thursday, May 23-Fourth day of iop SanAAai' i By JACK MENGES starts at the recent Santa Anita meeting. Hasti Jim won 10 of 25 outings last year but emerged the victor in only one of five tries this year. However, he lost the win when he broke stride at the finish and was disqualified. If Russell Valles Key can keep him on stride all the way tomorrow he should take the measure of his rivals.

Both Irwin Soper's Pacific Mac and the Tass Stock Farm's Renato Tass figure as strong contenders in the race. Each raced well here last meeting and was close up at Santa Anita. SAN MATEO The Burlin-game Trot and Vallejo Purse will share top billing on tomorrow's harness and quarter horse racing program at Bay Meadows. The Burlingante brings out a field of six sidewheelers for the one mile trot, while ten grade AAA minus quarter horses will dash 400 yards in the Vallejo. Named to the Burlingame are Hasti Jim, Pacific Mac, Renato Tass, Eblis Key, Meadows Gaines and Brass Tacks.

Cyrus BelTi Hasti Jim looms the probable favorite in he race although he broke his last three Kansas Denver DALLAS, Tex. Pennel is the latest in a rash of vaulters who have boosted the world standard week after week. His mark, which will be up for recognition unless he or someone else tops it, is IWu Oerter, with a fantastic series of throws (five over 200 feet), established a new world record of 205-5 in the recent Mt. San Antonio Relays at Walnut He broke his own world record of 204-10 at that time. The country's best in the other events are: High jumper John Thomas, former world record holder whose best this year is 7-2; shot putter Dave Steen of Oregon, with a 61-8; former broad jump world record holder Ralph Boston, who has done 26-7V4; triple jumper Mahoney Samuels, with a 52-2V4; javelin thrower Larry Stuart, who has tossed 267-3. Stuart is the only- question mark on the list.

He is compet ing in the AAWU Champion ships at Cal tomorrow afternoon, and will have to make a quick trip to Modesto if he hopes to get in some throws after the javelin starts at 4:30 p.m. Some hot races are on tap, too. with outstanding refcv-uar- tets entered from suenbfltfits as San Jose State, Texas Southern, Occidental, the. Striders, Santa Clara Valley Youth Village, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford and Southern Cal. The two-mile relay brings to gether the nation's four leading quartets, and could prove a threat to the world record 7:19.4, set by the U.S.

national team in 1960. Occidental heads the group with a 7:21.6 clocking, followed, by San Jose with 7:22, Oregon State with. 7:23.4 and Stanford with a 7:27.8. 1 Robert Hayes of the Florida A-M Track' Club is an attrac- tion by himself in the 100-yard dash. His blistering 9.9-second timt in the 100 meters at Mt.

San Antonio bettered the listed world record by a 10th of a second but was nullified by an 11 mile per hour Hayes has also tied the world record of 9.2 in the 100-yard dash, bat it probably won't be accepted because the starter's pistol was of too small a cali bre. With the addition of two iimior college comDetitors. John Ram bo and Otis Burrell, in the open high jump, a total of five seven-foot jumpers will be in the field, mere were only a tew re served seats remaining todav while a total of 1,500 general admission tickets will go on sale at the stadium tomorrow morn ing at 9a.m. Hardtops Race At Sacramento The Central State Racing As sociation modified hardtops move into their second week of competition at Capital Speedway in Sacramento tomorrow night witn an Jl-e vent program.
