California Summary Rain in the northern third of the state continued Wednesday night and by early Thursday it was raining lightly as far south as Fresno in the interior and Santa Maria on the coast. Measurable amounts were in the areas from Stockton and San Francisco northward. San Rafael had over one half inch and many north coast points and a few points in the extreme northern interior had almost one half inch. The central portion of the state has had variable cloudiness. In the southern areas mostly fair weather has prevailed but some high cloudiness was present and In the coastal areas low overcast was present night and morning.

Temperatures on Wednesday ranged from the low 80's at some desert points to near 60 at many northern points while central areas were 60 to 70. Low temperatures Thursday morning were mostly in the 50's at lowland stations. Winds were strong to gale force on the coast from Half Moon Bay northward at times and gale warnings are flying in this area. Other areas had gentle to moderate winds. The weather map early Thursday shows large area of low pressure extending from the eastern Gulf of Alaska southward to the latitude of Central California and into portions fthe Pacific Northwest.

The present rain is associated with the weather fronts moving out of the low pressure area Into Northwestern U.S. and Northern California. Rain at low levels and snow in the mountains of Northern and Central California should condinue intermittently through Friday and may spread Into the northern half of Southern California Friday, Lower temperatures are likely throughout most of the state by Friday.
