It is in the "betwixt and between" stage in the markets this week. New crops and new products are coming on but in many cases only a very small quantity has been received. The prices for new products are somewhat high. Prices in general have held about stationary. Most foods are at about the price now that they were year ago.

The notable exceptions are potatoes and onions. They are getting really cheap. Onions are In good quality and plentiful. They are selling at around $1.50 a bushel. Potatoes hold the lead with a price of from $1.00 to $1.25.

New Dried Fruits In. The new crops of dried fruits, peaches, apricots and raisins are now coming to the market and new cereals are also arriving. Cornmeal has just begurj to arrive and this shows a gratifying lower price in keeping with the reduction in corn, l'ork has at last shown a tendency to go lower. It has gone off about 5 cents a pound and may go lower. meats are steady with of lower prices.

Vegetables and Fruits. Head lettuce is on the market from California at 25 tj 30 cents a head. Grapefruit is of exceptionally good quality. They are heavy, Juicy, bright and smooth and priced at 10 to 20 cents each. Hickory nuts, home grown, are 10 cents a pouncKancl walnuts are offered at $1 a bushel.

Shipped-ln apples are being offered. Delicious command about $5.50 a box. Greenings are selling around $2.25 a bushel and Baldwins will be here in a few days. They are being packed in baskets this year on account of the high cost of barrels and will retail around $2.50 a bushel. The new crop of English walnuts and filberts is arriving.

Celery is lft good condition and coming1 in more rapidly. Pears are practically off the market, only a few of poor quality remain. MOOSE HEAD SPEAKS HERE. Darius A. Brown, Supremf Dictator, Addresses Two Local Audiences.

Darius A. Brown, former mayor of Kansas and Supreme Dictator of the Loyal Order of Moose, made two addresses In the city Thursday. At -noon he addressed an of fifty at the Marshalltown In the evening he spoke at Central Church of Christ. At both places he developed the thought of the causes- of crime and violence and the Importance of proper training for children as a preventative. He gave an explanation of the work of the fraternity at the orphan's home it is conducting at Fox River Valley, 111.

Mooseheart, the orphan's home, he explained, is on a tract of 1,023 acres and now cares for over 900 orphans of members of the order. It is run on the principal of preparing the children to face life completely equipped. Marshalltown Should Hatfe Even Break With Waterloo Eleven. Coach Day's red and blue eleven will play its first Important game away from home Saturday, when It meets West Waterloo, at Waterloo. The Waterloo eleven Is not as strong as last year but is considered a formidable aggregation. Barring accident, Marshalltown should have at least an even break with the Waterlooans and a strong possibility of victory. Last week the local team held East Waterloo to seven points, and East is considered to have a much stronger eleven than West.

The local team is in good condition, except for Travis and Zuercher, who are slowly recovering froiji injuries. Sergeant, who entered, the game with 'East Waterloo in poor condition, as the result of injuries, probably will be able to play the entire game Saturday. THE JAZZ BABIES.
