Southnort, winner of the re-.

cent District I tourney, scored two timet in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Anderson, 5-to-J, in the opening contest on the Forest Park diamond. Then Noblesvllle. which didn't have to play in the district tournament because of being the host team for the area, talli-ed a single marker in the top of the 9th to defeat Connersville, 4-to-3. By winning, Noblesvllle now is Mle until Friday when the local Howard Insurance Ail-Stars, second place finisher behind Bloomington in stale one year ago, will battle the winner of tonight's opening battle between Southport and Hartford City. Southport is the only (earn ever to defeat Noblesville in a district tourney game.

Hartford City goea into tonight's battle after having a first round bye. In game two tonight, the two opening round losers, Anderson and Connersville, will fight to remain alive in this double-elimination tourney. Five years ago at Anderson the season after Noblesvllle placed third in the state tourney the local All-Start led Connersville by a 8-0 count with two innings to go. The winner of that contest had a spot in the state tourney. Connersville came back to win.

History almost repeated itself last plght. Noblesvllle rolled with ease through the first 4V innings. Howard Insurance had a 3-0 lead at the time, and the game was going even in a more onesided manner than the score might have indicated. Nobles-, ville had left 10 runs on base in those first five times at bat. Then, with one out in the bottom of the fifth, Connersville's Gable doubled.

Noblesville pitcher Dave Fleming fanned another batter, but then walked Bowling. Lods and Carr followed with singles, and Connersville had the score tied at 3-3. Noblesville scored its first run in the opening frame on a single by Mike Snively, walks to Fleming and Andy Martin and a Connersville error. The hosts got another marker in the third on two more Connersville bobbles and walk to Fleming.
