The writer's desire for stimulants when attacked by this consuming appetite was a flaming, roaring, raging, devouring desire for drink, which caused him to seek it)and take it at all hazards. Knowledge of certain death if he took it would not deter him from taking the accursed poison.

After a course of the treatment at the Keeley Institute at Plainfleld that consuming desire exists with him no more than it does with a little child. Knowing this, and knowing as well the terrors of the disease, if he or any one who has been cured tests his cure until he learns anew to long for the stimulant (which he must do before he can use it), he is a suicide, a self-murderer, whether he be Col. (a) Conceptive. (B) Reason, or logical stage. 3. Universal. In the stage of the particular the mind views the object as independent, in the sense that it is considered to be distinct or separate from all other objects.

If relations are grasped they are not emphasized. This indicates that the relations are considered as non-essential. In this first stage it is the tendency of mind to conceive all attributes as particular. In the second stage the relation is emphasized. In this stage of thinking, the mind seeks the attributes that unify or make one, the different objects.

In the second phase of this stage the mind emphasizes the fact that the object expresses an idea; and the degree of perfection with which it expresses the idea. The third stage is termed that of insight. Is this stage each object is related to some fundamental or universal principle." The fundamental principle of the universe Is self-activity. The dissipation of W. P. Whitaker and his recent removal to the poor house are fresh in ho minds of onr readers. The last sad scene in the drama of his life has been enacted. AU that is mortal of him has been placed by the side of his loved wife in Crownland.

Late Saturday evening his spirit took its flight and Sunday afternoon a few comrades of the Grand Army and other sympathetic friends gave him christian burial, and the broad mantel of charity is placed over the memory of him. In his life and death all may learn a lesson. We know not his temptation, we only see its effects. If his life could be written in such manner that some may shun the demon drink he will not have lived in vain. The floral offerings consisted of many elegant designs, altogether forming a beautiful and eloquent tribute to his memory. After the service at the house, the funeral was conducted by the members of the Masonic Lodge of which Mr. Gray was a member, and the beautiful and impressive service of the order was performed at the cemetery. In the death of Mr. Gray this community has sustained an irreparable loss.

No man has ever impressed his personal character more strongly upon the community in which he lived than has Joseph R. Gray. He always stood as the champion of humanity, morality and Christianity. He was true himself, his friends and to God and if the person who simply gives a cup of cold water in the Master's name shall be rewarded, therefore, then surely the reward to which he has gone is great.
