Lyon Was' Local Man Word has been received of the death of Maj. Gen. Edwin Bowman Lyon, formerly of Las Cruces. who died Wednesday in Washington, D.C. He will be buried in Arlington National Cemelery.

General Lyon was born in 1892 in Las Cruces, the son of Dr. and Mrs. W.B. Lyon. After their death, he and his sister, Mrs.

General Lyon attended the state college here and al age 17 entered West Point where he graduated in 1915 jusl in lime to lake pa Mexico transferred lo aviation, completing a course al Corps Technical School in ile graduated from General Stoff Corps as a-distinguished graduate in 11)36. and was rated "a command pilot as well as a observer. He also graduated from Ihe Army War College. Prior to World War II, General Lyon was commander of Randolph Field, and Moffit I'ield. Calif.

He was awarded Ihe Mexican Campaign medal; the World War I Victory medal, Ihe American Defense medal and Ihe Air medal. The general commanded the Sixlh Air Force after returning to the United Slates from the Pacific. Until retirement he was president of the personnel board of the Sccrelary of the Air Force. He is survived by his widow: his sister, Mrs. Barger of El Paso: a cousin, a niece and a nephew.
