The War Department has announced that enemy troop ships have been sighted off Ba-tangas on the southern tip of Luzon Island. That's about sixty-five miles southeast of Manila. It's recalled that similar action taken in Europe during the invasion of the lowlands, France and the' Balkans, helped to save many European capitals from severe aerial punishment. A wave of nine Jap planes dropped heavy explosives on the port area of Manila early today. A terrific snti-aircraft barrage is believed to have bagged one Jap plane. It was seen disappearing over the horizon with a stream of smoke trailing from its tail. The planes then continued on to Fort McKinley, but were driven off there by anti-aircraft gunners.
