CnicCT, New Mexteo-TlMlday, July 11. 1972 For Basketball Cable TV Low Aggie Bidder By JOE MUENCH Sun-News Sporli Editor Las Cruces Cable Company Is the apparent low bltktar for 1972-73 New Mexico State University Aggie basketball television rights after a 10 a.m. bid opening today. The local cable company was the only for six games. NMSU Athletic Director Lou Henson said he wasn't sure al this time if he would accept the bid or send out new bid specifications.

Albuquerque Station KGGM recently bid $22,000 for University of New Mexico basketball. Cable Company Sports Director Mike McLesky said his company had not planned to bid on the Aggie rights, but when it was found out there were no other Cable Company handed in quick offer. If Cable Company here does receive the rights to televise will telecast three Aggie road games and three home games. Home SPOR TS JOE MUENCH: EDITOR games will be blacked out in the Las Cruces area. The road games that will be carried, according lo McLesky, are: U.T.

El Paso, Nov. 27; Tulsa, Feb. 17; and Wichita Slate, Mar. 10. Oddly enough, the bid specifications did not call for Ihe lelevising of the Aggie-University of New Mexico game in Albuqucique.

Al 9:46 a.m., a representative from Albuquerque Television Station KOAT submitted an envelope, but when bids were opened at 10 a.m., only a letter was in the envelope. It said, in part, "because of conflicts and other considerations, we have decided not to bid." Henson gave no date when he'll decide either to accept the cable bid or send oul new bids. Previously, Las Cruces Radio Slalion KOBE won Ihe rights to broadcast all Aggie football and basketball games from what Henson said to be a $2,000 fee. Although Ihe Cable TV bid is much lower lhan Ihe radio bid, radio will carry 11 foolball games and 26baskelball games, while Cable TV will carry only six basketball games.
