Pine Mticfi 19.1972 Upsets Mark Bantam Season-End Contests Leads In Series, Ties For High Game Glen Wright Plasters Pins Bantam Weight Basketball play Saturday was full of surprises as two highly favored teams fell and the powerful Central Editors barely managed to hold off an intense Lorn a Heights Bruins effort. And, as a result, a coin flip will be needed to determine some entry spots in next weekend's championship tournament. The biggest upset of the day was turned in by the defensive- minded Alameda Roadrunners who held off the Washington Raiders for a 23-21 win. Washington finished Ihe season in a tie for second place with the Bradley Chiefs with a 5-2 record. The Editors won with a perfect 7-0 slate.

But the Roadrunner victory puts Bud Richards' team (4-3) in a tie for fourth place with the Bruins. A coin flip will determine which team receives a bid the playoffs. Another upset was turned in by Ihe University Hills Sainls who gave themselves a shot at Ihe playoffs (pending flip of coin) when they downed Ihe strong Valley View PALs, 33-29. The Sainls are now 4-3 on the season, tied with the Conlce Knicks and Old Mesilla Wild- cals. Two of the three teams will join division winner Mesilla Park Bullets (6-1) and PAL (52) in the tournament.

Central's Editors were forced to plug all the way and even an eight poinl lead in Ihe third quarter was nol enough to hold the Bruins who dominated the backboards, but could not pull out the win. The Bruins, using the lalents of guard Robert Lopez, managed lo take a one- point lead lale in the game, but the Editors came back with Bill Connor's five points lo win it in the lasl minute.
