Frances Coons. Next City Hall, Packer Avenue SAYRE, PA. Capitol Theatre, last time today. Miss Crawford plays the role of a young woman who has not seen her divorced mother since childhood. They are reunited and react more like friends than mother and daughter, for the ultra-modern parent does the same things her daughter does.

When her daughter finally falls in love with the son of conservative Boston aristocrats, it is this ultra freedom of her mother's that breaks up the romance. The lover doesn't want a girl whose mother "runs around." A series of exciting events lead up to the denouncement, which is capped with a surprise climax. The picture, which was adapted from the Mildred Cram novel, "Girls Together," gives Miss Crawford opportunities in the "whoopee" type of part with which she has been so successful in the past, although the story obviously has Its serious moments. Sayre The accolade of four stars is the least that can be awarded "Merely Mary Ann," the latest Janet Gaynor-Charles Farrell starring vehicle, which opened to an enthusiastic audience yesterday at the Sayqa Theatre. With a story perfectly fitted to its principals, thoroughly realistic settings, an excellently-chosen group of supporting players and the admirable direction of Henry King, a splendid background is afforded the famous, film "team" and they respond to the opportunity with some of the finest dramatic and emotional work it has even been this reviewer's privilege to witness.

They exceed their epochal work in "7th Heaven." Miss Gaynor is more wistful and charming than ever as the repressed little maid-of-all-work in the dingy London rooming house, who shyly falls in, love with the clever but impecunious composer, played hy Charles Farrell his best talking picture performance. Their delightful romance, with its vivid moments of sheer pathos, is one of the moBt appealing stories ever to reach the speaking screen, and Director King has handled it to perfection, touching just the right note throughout. Amusu Tom Tvler. that fascinating and altogether individual western hero.
