(AP) -Negotiations between the Green Bay Packers and safety Darren Sharper will be revived today, his agent says. Joel Segal said the meeting with team negotiator Andrew Brandt in New York would allow the two sides to conduct a long, intense negotiating session and get a better idea of where each side stood.

He did not indicate a deal was imminent, but he said anything could happen. "Some deals take a year to do and some can be done in a day," Segal said. Sharper could become an unrestricted free agent in March if he is not signed. The Packers could also designate him as the team's franchise player, and they have until Feb. 22 to decide whether to that to keep him.

Report Packers could cut Brian Williams, Earl Dotson: Linebacker Brian Williams and offensive tackle Earl Dotson will soon be cut by the Green Bay Packers if agreements cannot be reached on reworking their contracts, a newspaper said today. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said the Packers are not close to reducing Williams' deal and they have not even spoken to Dotson about lowering the salary cap value of his contract. "I have a lot of confidence that Bob will continue the tradition of video excellence that we as coaches and scouts have become accustomed to under Al's direction," Sherman said.

"Bob has acquired much knowledge over the past 19 years." Treml, 64, is the team's longest-tenured employee and the league's longest-serving video director. He has worked for nine of the Packers' 13 head coaches during his 34-year career, beginning with Vince Lombardi, who hired him for a full-time position in March 1967. Treml began his association with the team filming games part-time in 1964. In his role as video director, Treml has supervised the production and editing of all game and practice tapes for the club's football operations, as well as weekly, in-season exchange of video with other teams. Under his direction, the Packers were the first NFL club to use nonlinear digital editing, a system now used by 30 league teams.

Treml was elected by his peers the first chairman of the NFL Video Directors Committee in 1986 and he served as co-chairman of the committee from 1992-98. Before joining the Packers, Treml worked for Green Bay television stations WFRV-TV (1960-63) and WBAY-TV (1964-67) as an award-winning news and sports photographer. Treml, a Green Bay native, began his photographic career while in the Army from 1955-58. games since. Dotson, 30, in 1999, underwent surgery twice last year to repair a herniated disc in his lower back.

He played in just one game. The newspaper said that, by releasing Dotson and Williams, the Packers would trim a combined total of $4.65 million from their books. Video man retires: Al Treml, the man behind the camera for the Green Bay Packers for nearly four decades and the only video director in the franchise's history, is retiring July 15. Treml, one of the NFL's premier videographers, said Tuesday he will continue to help on game days at the request of coach Mike Sherman. Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid, who worked with Treml during his seven seasons as an assistant with the Packers, was among many former colleagues who praised his work as a tremendous aid to coaches and scouts.

"He's really leaving at the top of his game as one of, if not the best, video coordinators in the league," Reid said. "He's a well respected guy amongst his peers and has been for many years. He really stayed on top of all of the new technology that came out." As film liaison coach, "I worked with him everyday," Reid added. "He always got the best for the coaches. "Whatever it was that we needed, he'd get it, somehow, some way, to make it the best." Bob Eckberg, who joined the team in 1982, will assume Treml's Tower Lanes Monday Nile Open Resulte Feb.

(AP) -Wisconsin declared sophomore guard Ricky Bower ineligible before Tuesday's game against Illinois. In a written statement, university officials said a routine review of student-athlete records showed the NCAA had not granted its final approval for Bower to compete. Bower played his first year of college basketball at Ricks Community College in Idaho before spending two years on a Mormon mission.

He then came to Wisconsin in 2000. Bower, a reserve, is averaging i 4.4 points and 1.3 rebounds per game for the 19th-ranked Badgers. The university said Bower's ineligibility is "procedural in nature and not related to his academic performance at UW-Madison." School officials said they were working with the NCAA to restore Bower's eligibility as soon as possible. Redskins spend but Giants win NEW YORK (AP) Success in the NFL isn't always the result of big spending. Just look at the New York Giants and the Washington Redskins.

The Giants went to the Super Bowl last season with the third-lowest payroll in the league $57.3 million, more than 40 percent less than the Redskins spent to finish third in the NFC East. The figures, first reported by USA Today and released Tuesday by the NFL Players Association, show that the Redskins, not unexpectedly, led the NFL in spending last season with $92.4 million in salaries and bonuses.
