Kris Sieckert, who works for the Oconomowoc School District, is part of the National Emergency Response Team, a seven group that travels to areas in times of emergency. Sieckert, for example, went to Jonesboro, shortly after four students and a teacher were killed there. Sieckert will accept the award in New Orleans next month. A former employee of the Milwaukee Public Schools, Sieckert was also named Wisconsin's top school psychologist last year.

As the national school psychologist of the year, Sieckert takes on a role as a national advocate for children and children's services. Sieckert said the greatest challenge facing her profession today is finding ways to strengthen children, schools and communities to avoid crises before they happen. "While recognizing the widespread shortage of school psychologists and tight school funding as major concerns, the biggest issue for me is prevention," Sieckert said. "I've always been a huge proponent of prevention, through programs like peer mediation." Area Police Beats Beaver Dam Accident A car driven by Nicole A.
