QC Ike JACKETS t.3 1.69 Baptist Hospital To Contain Top Equipment in Area Rotary Club Told of Schedule By Pat Groner Formal opening of Pensacola Baptist hospital la expected to be by July 1. Pat Groner. administrator, said Tuesday as he addressed the Rotary club at Its meeting at San Carlos hoteL Groner said equipment being Installed is of the latest design and should" afford this area" one of the best equipped hospitals in this section of the South. Talking on "Hospital Finances and Groner said hospital costs are based on a per diem basis. Hospital costs are now S16 to $18 per day compared to the former costs of $5 to $6 per day.

COST OF SALARIES In explaining -what makes up these costs Groner said the greatest expenditure Is salaries. More than two thirds of the costs go into salaries, he said, as a recognized hospital maintains a ratio of approximately 2.3 employes to each patient. Minimum requirement of the American College of Surgeons is that a hospital in order to be recognized have at least one nuise per patient. Groner said people attempt many -times -to compare the costs with hotels. He said this is unfair comparison as less than 15 per cent of the cfts in a hospital are for 'housekeeping.

"Only 38 per cent of a hospital is used solely for patient rooms," the administrator said. Another Item that has caused considerable increase in the cost of hospitalization per day is drugs, he said. This bill was formerly as low as 50 cents per day while now this cost is from $3 to $5 per day, he said. This is due mainly to the many new and effective types of drugs such as penicillin. DRUGS EXPENSIVE "The drugs are worth the additional expense, however," he said.

They reduce the length of stay of the individual in the hospital and have also increased the incidence of recovery." Another reason for the costs is the widespread use of diagnostic facilities such as the laboratories and X-rays, he said. However, the patient benefits in the long run as these tasts make immediate treatment possible thereby shortening i i c- I vi i 2.95 RAIN COATS U.S.N. 1 Pc. 6.95 RAIN SUITS 1 U. S.
