Many Weddings Keep Missoula Society on Move BETWEEN breezes showers Missoula and society endeavored to function this week. It was not a big week, even as Summer weeks go, but what events there were served to fill the hours of what otherwise could have been a languorous period. Out-of-door activity increased as indoor life became a bit more irksome. Lawn events, picnics and travel claimed their share of popularity.

But there is no diminution in the number of weddings as the Summer days slip away. They serve to brighten a picture that otherwise shows a bit of the drab. The July brides are just as numerous and just as attractive as were those of June. Leave for Chicago. Mr.

and Mrs. Eugene L. Lopez and Mr. and Mrs. John Tarwain left Thursday for Chicago after a visit with Mr.

and Mrs. Ira E. Thompson and Mr. and Mrs. M.

F. Thompson. Mrs. Lopez is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

Ira Thompson. Mr. Lopez is a member of the State University faculty of Urbana, Ill. Mr. Tarwain is a coach at the University of Illinois.

Picnic Supper Party. Mrs. Rhea Strawn entertained at a lawn picnic supper Tuesday evening for Mrs. Margaret Sterett of Los Angeles. Supper was served at 7 o'clock to Mrs.

Sterett and daughters, Peggy and Dorothy; A Miss Helen Stoddard, Miss Bess Stoddard, Mrs. Hugh Bullard, Miss Gladys Peterson of Washington, D. Mrs. Richard Hale, Mrs. Harold Moffett, Miss Mayme Robson, Miss Helen Robson, Miss Irma Johnson, Miss Florence Irving, Miss Ann Webster and the hostess.

California Visitors. Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Smith and family and Miss Alpha Smith of San Pedro, are house guests this week of Mrs.

F. D. Montgomery on South Second street, west. Mr. Smith and Miss Smith are brother sister of Mrs.

Montgomery. They are also visiting their brother, Earl E. Smith, of this city. Mr. is captain of the fire department in Los Angeles and Miss Smith is connected with the News Pilot of San Pedro.

Visitors. Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Garrison Great Falls visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs.

T. H. McDowell on East Front street during the past week. Mr. Garrison is a member of the Great Falls Leader staff.

Clarence Diermann of Eureka and daughter, Mrs. Granville Lyons, of Chewelah, visited at the McDowell home during the week. Mr. and Mrs. McDowell spent last week-end at Eureka as guests of Mr.

and Mrs. Diermann. Thursday afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. McDowell, Mr.

and Mrs. A. L. Riefflin and son, Bobby, motored to Superior, where they visited Emil Riefflin. Mr.

Riefflin is proprietor of the Mineral County pharmacy. At Seeley Lake. friends Mrs. E. at a C.

luncheon Mulroney at entertained mer home at Seeley lake Wednesday afternoon. Bridge and swimming were the diversions after the luncheon hour. Visits Sister. Miss Mary Hoyt of Golden, is the house guest of her sister, Mrs. E.

L. Larison, at the Watson apartments. Miss Hoyt is librarian at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden. Washington Visitor. Miss Ruth O'Neill of Washington, D.

is visiting with her sister, Mrs. A. L. Olson, on Blaine street and with her father, James D. O'Neill.

Last week Miss O'Neill visited her brother, J. Alden O'Neill, at Pasco, Wash. Miss O'Neill, who is employed by the U. S. Internal Revenue department, will return to Washington next Wednesday, Entertains at Picnic.

Miss Donna Faye Spurling entertained at a picnic up the Blackfoot Thursday evening for her cousin, Miss Marian Brown, of Chester, who came to Missoula to make her home with Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Spurling on Keith avenue.

Following the picnic supper games were enjoyed at Miss Spurling's home by Mrs. Wallace Brennan, Miss Nora McCartan, Miss Lucille Small, Miss Catherine Mead, Misses Sue and Barbara Wilkinson, Mrs. James Reynolds, Mrs. Larry Merkt, Mrs. Jack Dunn, Miss Brown and the hostess.

Farewell Luncheon. The F. A. club of the forestry department entertained at a luncheon in the Mayfair room of the Hotel Florence Saturday honoring Mike Skones, Miss Louise Ford, Miss Orpha Ayers, Mr. and Mrs.

Art Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. N. H. Larsen, and Kenneth Smith, all of whom are leaving Missoula soon.

E. Brodie of 245 South Fourth street, west, and Rae Clayben Greene, son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Edward Greene of Chicago, were married at the bride's parents' home at 11 o'clock Monday morning, July 21, twenty-fourth anniversary wedding date of Mr. and Mrs.

Brodie. Rev. Harvey Baty of the University school of religion performed the ceremony before an improvised altar arranged before triple windows banked with greenery and salmon pink and white gladioli. Satin ribbons formed the aisle from the stairway to the altar. Miss Lorna Lavin was maid of honor and Fred Higgins attended the groom.

Miss Maribeth Kitt rendered violin selections, including "Because," "I Love You Truly" and the "Wedding March" from Lohengrin. The bride chose a white marquisette afternoon dress designed on princess lines with leg-0-mutton sleeves. felt halo hat and white accessories. Her corsage was of gardenias. Miss Lavin, maid of honor, wore a blue redingote ensemble with white picture hat and accessories.

O. A. Mace at her new home on Alder street Wednesday afternoon. The guests presented Mrs. Mace with a lovely gift for her new home.

Shaw-Field. Of interest to Missoula friends was the marriage recently, in Racine, of Miss Pansie Shaw of Melstone, State University graduate, and Harry J. Field. formerly of Melstone and now of Racine. The bride taught in the high schools in Melstone and Three Forks before her marriage.

Mr. Field studied mechanical engineering at Montana State College and attended a trade school in Chicago. He is now a machinist for a tractor company in Racine where the couple is at home at 833 College avenue. The immediate family of the groom attended the wedding. Return From Visit.

Mrs. Carl Dragstedt and daughter, Charlene, returned Monday from Lewistown, where they visited with Mrs. Dragstedt's father, H. B. Gibson, Twenty Fifth Anniversary Is Observed by Vallances Mr.

and Mrs. R. E. Vallance served their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary at their home up the Rattlesnake Sunday at an open house between the hours of 4 and 8 o'clock when more than seventyfive guests called. A four -tiered wedding cake adorned the service table.

Mrs. Vallance was assisted by Francis Milburn, her sister; Mrs. V. S. Hertz of Deer Lodge, sister of Mr.

Vallance: Mrs. Vallance of Hamilton, and Mrs. She law Claude Milburn. A family dinner was also enjoyed at 2 o'clock when places were marked for Mr. and Mrs.

Frank Birrer, exchanged vows at 7:15 o'clock mass Saturday, July 19, at the St. Francis Xavier church. Rev. Henry Blackmore, S. officiated before an altar decorated with baskets of Regal lilies and other white flowers.

Miss Josephine Bugli rendered the nuptial music. Miss Kathryn Deegan of Bozeman, sister of the bride, was maid of honor and the bridesmaids were Miss Margaret Moran and Miss Eileen Deegan, sister of the bride. Henry Pissot attended the groom and the ushers were Larry Smith and Fritz Thibodeau. The bride chose a gown of white duchess satin with lace insets fashioned on princess lines and extending into a train. Her finger-tip length veil of tulle was caught by a tiara of orange blossoms.

She carried an arm bouquet of white lilies. Her maid of honor wore a floor length gown of blue silk jersey designed with three-quarter length sleeves and a full skirt. She wore a gold Juliet cap gold slippers. Both bridesmaids wore pink marquisette gowns trimmed with lace. They wore silver Juliet caps and silver slippers.

All the attendants Enjoyable Steak Fry. Members of Omicron chapter of Beta Sigma Phi enjoyed a steak fry up Pattee canyon Monday evening. Miss Esther Johnson, a member of the Miles City chapter who is attending Montana State University this summer, was a guest. Plans were made other outdoor activities to be given during the summer months. The next regular meeting will be held in the Hotel Florence Monday when Miss Molly Clasbey and Miss Irma Lu Heaton will be in charge of the meeting.

Engagement Announced. Mrs. Hazel J. Lower of Judith Gap announces the engagement of her daughter, Elloine, to Marvin Burreson, son of Mr. and Mrs.

Dratz' home on Stephens avenue Friday afternoon for three August brides, Miss Alison Merriam, Miss Margaret Minty and Miss Mary Alice Dickson. Mrs. Harold High presided at the coffee urn. A centerpiece pink sweet peas adorned the table. Thirty were invited to be with the honor guests.

For Miss Stillings. A dinner party was given Wednesday evening for Miss Kay Stillings by her mother, Mrs. F. A. Stillings, at their home on Mount avenue.

Miss Stillings is leaving Saturday for Newark, N. where she will serve a year's interneship as student dietitian at Beth Israel hospital. Seated with Miss Stillings were Miss Jean Newquist, Miss Edine Peterson, Miss Lauretta Elder, Miss Effiellen Jeffries, Miss Joyce Hovland, Miss Rose Marie Bourdeau, Mrs. Harley Beasley of Hamilton, the honor guest and the hostess. Bridge was enjoyed and Miss Bourdeau and Miss Peterson were recipients of score favors.

Honor Mrs. Clapp. Mrs. Francis Clapp, recent bride, was complimented at a linen shower Friday evening by Mrs. Anthony McCune, at her home at Sacajawea lodge.

A reception was held at the bride's parents' home after the ceremony when intimate friends were guests. A three-tiered wedding cake adorned the service table at which Mrs. Dickinson, Mrs. Fred Wilfong Milne Wand presided. A centerpiece of roses and sweet peas decorated the table.

Mr. and Mrs. Greene left immediately after the reception for Flathead lake. They will go through Glacier park and into Canada and return to Great Falls where they will be at home at 205 Twentyninth street. south, where Mr.

Greene is with the state fish and game department as deputy game warden at Great Falls. Mrs. Greene attended schools in Missoula and matriculated at the State University. She is affiliated with Alpha Phi sorority. Mr.

Greene was graduated from the State University this spring in wildlife technology. He was student president this past year and captain of the basketball team. He is a member of Phi Sigma, national honorary biological fraternity, Bear Paw, Silent Sentinel and Central Board. -town guests attending the wedding were Mrs. Harry Booth of Darby, Mrs.

Hammesfahr of Chicago, Ill. Women of the Moose. The Missoula chapter of Women of the Moose gathered at Union hall Friday evening with Mrs. Ben Robertson presiding. The Very Rev.

Denis P. Meade was introduced as guest speaker. Rev. Father Meade gave an interesting talk for the benefit of the U. S.

O. after which the members voted to donate $5 to the organization. Among matters discussed at the business session were plans for the banquet Monday night for Francis J. Clohessy of Waverly, N. supreme governor of the Loyal Order of the Moose, and plans for the concession at the Western Montana fair.

The charter was draped in memory of a deceased member, Ida Skarski of Spokane. Mrs. Robertson appointed Mrs. J. M.

Bakker, Mrs. Daisy VanCleave, Mrs. Hezekiah VanDorn. Mrs. Munson and O'Connor as a telephone committee; Mrs.

C. W. Harpster, Mrs. C. F.

Odenwald and Mrs. James Finefrock, investigating committee: Mrs. Mabel Ryan, chairman of kitchen committee. Committee chairmen reporting were Mrs. H.

F. Newman, library: Mrs. Finefrock, Mooseheart, and Mrs. H. C.

Waller, social service. The executive committee served refreshments to about twenty-five members. Merrytimes Club. The Merrytimes club of the Women's Benefit association gathered Friday evening at the home of Mrs. J.

M. Eaheart on West Spruce street. Mrs. Eaheart was assisted by Mrs. C.

A. Dauven. After the business meeting conducted by Mrs. W. O.

Gregory, whist was played and prizes went to Mrs. Anna Clunie, Mrs. Gregory and Mrs. Ann Johnson. Refreshments were served by the hostesses at a late hour to Florence Cook, Mrs.

McGown. Mrs. Marjorie Anderson was hostess at dinner at the Golden Pheasant and a theater party Monday evening complimenting Mrs. Mary Kroone McGown of Seattle. Guests seated with Mrs.

McGown and Mrs. Anderson were Mrs. Irvine Bennett and Mrs. Charlotte Stone Murphy. carried old-fashioned bouquets of Polyantha roses and sweet peas.

Mrs. Deegan chose a light blue sheer redingote with navy accessories and Mrs. Birrer wore blue and white frock with white accesof roses sories. Both, mothers, wore corsages A breakfast was served at the Coffee Parlor for the families and bridal party. A three-tiered wedding cake, tapers and a bowl of roses decorated the table.

A reception was held. at the bride's parents' home friends relatives of the couple. The bride was graduated from the Sacred Heart academy and the Montana State University. She was employed in Sidney as personnel director of the N. Y.

A. office before her marriage. Mr. Stiver was graduated from Butte high school and is employed by the United States government as quartermaster at Fort Missoula. They will be at home in Missoula.

Immediately after the breakfast and reception they left for Glacier park and Canada. For going-away Mrs. Stivers wore a brown and white cotton sheer suit with white accessories and a corsage of brown daisies. Out-of -town guests were Mrs. Alice Davis and daughter of Whitehall, Ivan Birrer of Sheridan and Mrs.

Mary Jones of Drummond. Peterson-Petersen. Miss Lucille Peterson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Peterson of 145 Brooks street, became the bride of Harry T.

Petersen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Petersen, on Saturday, July 19 at Hamilton. Rev. Earl Saladen performed the ceremony.

The couple was attended by Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Martin.

Mrs. Petersen chose a navy blue ensemble with matching accessories and a corsage of roses for her wedding. Both the bride and groom attended Missoula schools. Mr. Petersen is employed by the White Pine Sash company.

They are at home at the Austin apartments. Hiemstra-Still. Announcement has been made of the marriage of Miss Yetta Hiemstra and Adolph F. Still of this city in St. Mary's Episcopal church at Hamilton recently.

Mrs. Still is the daughter of James Hiemstra of Saskatoon, Canada, and has been a resident of Missoula for three years. Mr. Still was graduated from Anaconda high school and attended Montana State University for three years. Mr.

and Mrs. Still are now residing in Idaho where the groom is connected with the force of the department highengineering ways. Missionary Society. The Woman's Missionary Society of the Mission Covenant church met in the church parlors on West Spruce street Wednesday afternoon. Bandages were made and the members sewed on quilts.

Miss Leona Doney, bride-elect, whose wedding will take place early in August, was given a miscellaneous shower Tuesday evening in the Methodist church parlors by one hundred friends and relatives. Garden flowers were used a profusely and banked about the alcove where the bride's table stood laden with beautiful gifts for her new home. A lace-covered table centered with a bowl of sweet peas in pastel colors was presided over by Mrs. H. W.

Woods. Refreshments, carrying out the same color scheme, were served. A short program with vocal numbers by Mrs. D. A.

Willard was presented. Miss Dorothy Borcherding was the accompanist. Honor Miss Dickson. Miss Mary Alice Dickson, brideelect, was the guest of honor at a given by Mrs. George E.

party, and Miss Margaret Minty at their home on Brooks street, Tuesday evening. During the evening Mrs. Minty announced the engagement of her daughter, Margaret, to Robert Allen Shipley, son of R. C. Shipley of Richmond, Cal.

The announcement was made with cards decorated with silver wedding bells and bearing the names of the couple and the wedding date, which is set for August 11. Court whist was played after which refreshments were served. A shower of lovely gifts were presented to Miss Dickson by her friends. Guests were Miss Dickson, Mrs. W.

For Miss Beaubien. Boyer. Miss Gemma, Beaubien, who is leaving for Portland. where she will be married to Harry Mercer of Marsh Field, on August 2. was complimented at parties during the week.

Miss Jean Newquist entertained for Miss Beaubien at her home on West Broadway last Wednesday when "cootie" furnished the diversion. Score favors were awarded to Miss Betty Flaherty and Miss Denise Deschamps. Guests invited to be with Miss Beaubien were Mrs. Joe Beaubien, Miss Rose Marie Bourdeau, Miss Betty Flaherty, Miss Edine Peterson, Miss Denise Deschamps and Mrs. George Steinbrenner, Jr.

A no-host dinner was tendered Miss Beaubien Thursday evening at the Happy Bungalow. Personal gifts were given Miss Beaubien by Miss Deschamps, Miss Newquist and Miss Bourdeau. Mrs. J. O.
