and Mrs. D. A. Gariepy of this city, until her wedding, solemnized here a few days ago. MISS OSSIA TAYLOR, an officer of the Thespians, of the senior class and otherwise a leader, had a leading role in the high school play of last evening.

The Missoula branch of the American Association of University Women held its annual holiday party last Saturday evening In the social rooms of the University The Faculty Women's club of the State University was entertained Monday afternoon at the home of Mrs. R. H. Jesse, 610 University avenue, with Mrs. Jesse, Mrs.

Howard, Mrs. I. W. Cook and Mrs. E.

F. A. Carey, the hostesses. The recently elected officers, Mrs. Brassil Fitzgerald, president; Mrs.

C. H. Riedell, vice president; Mrs. KuTus Coleman, treasurer, and Mrs. J.

W. Howard, secretary, assumed their duties at this session. An informal social hour Included the serving of a delicious buffet tea in the dining room at 4 o'clock. The tea table with its rose colored sweet pea centerpiece and lighted tapers of corresponding hues was presided over by Mrs. B.

Society got started again, ifter the interlude of the Holidays, and everybody found out that the routine was pleasant, perhaps more pleasant than the unusual excitement of a week when almost every day was an Extraordinary Occasion.

Organizations in great number reassembled themselves and there was a great installing of officers, with banquets and all that. And the bridge clubs joined in with their more intellectual sisters, rather generally already under way. Among the larger events of the week were the bridge luncheon of the Missoula Country club, that of the Forestry Triangle and sessions of the Faculty Women's club, the P. E. O.

and the American Association of University Women. And, of course, there were any number of luncheons and dinners and bridge parties. And here is Something Impdrtant: The flowers of spring arrived in the decorations of the week, tulips, daffodils and jonquils. That is a symptom of lengthening days, even if the First Robin persistently withholds his optimistic presence. And, its vacation over, the Campus came to life.

The Freshmen gave a dancing party for. the sophomores Friday night and numerous "firesides" took care of Saturday. A church. Mrs. H.

G. Merriam was chairman of the committee In charge of the delightful entertainment which Included charades, a synonym spelling match, old fashioned children's games and contests, a program of square dances and the singing of old time melodies with Mrs. Robert C. Line at the piano. A radio and a phonograph provided music for the dances and games.

The entertaining and successful evening closed with the serving of delicious refreshments by Mrs. A. G. Phelps, Mrs. R.

C. Shaver and Mrs. George Maffick. Each member of the association attending the meeting brought either a pound or a can of food to be sent to the central clearing house for distribution among the poor of Uie city during the winter months. Bitter Root Pioneers Wed.

Mrs. Ella Woodward and Henry Flanagin, both Montana pioneers, were united in marriage, Wednesday evening, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. J.

Lawrence, in the presence of their families and a few Intimate friends. Mrs. Georglana Crawshaw and Mr. Lawrence attended the bride and groom. Rev.

D. E. Jackson of the Presbyterian church of Missoula officiated at the ceremony. Following the ceremony a dinner was served to the guests. Mr.

and Mrs. Flanagin will make their home in Stevensville. Altar Society Elects. Thursday afternoon about fifty members of St. Anthony's Altar society enjoyed a covered-dish luncheon at the parish hall.

The annual election resulted In those who have served the society during the past year being returned to office: Mrs. George K. Dick, president; Mrs. W. E.

Johnson, secretary, and Mrs. Russell Ncal, treasurer. Mrs. G. B.

McBrlde was chosen as the vice president. Reports were given by the stand ing committee chairman and offi cers. The treasurer reported that the society had a little more than $71 in the treasury after paying all bills at the first of the year. Park Addition Club. About twenty members of the Park Addition club enjoyed tho social meeting held Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs.

J. S. Jack-man in the Rattlesnake valley, with Mrs. L. N.

Baker and Mrs. E. P. Wolschlager, the assistant hostesses. Handwork, conversation and a de licious 4 o'clock tea were a part of the pleasant entertainment.

Auxiliary Gives Banquet. The auxiliary to the Ancient Or der of Hibernians entertained at a banquet last Tuesday evening at 7 o'clock at the Coffee Parlor honor ing the retiring officers and the re cently elected officers who were in stalled that evening. Covers were laid at the attractive table decorated with pink and white flowers and greenery for about twenty-five members of the order and two guests of honor, Father A. J. Krebs bach and Father D.

P. Meade. Mrs. Richard Hanrahan will be president of the order during the year 1931. Miss Mary Martin Hostess.

Miss Mary Martin gave an enjoy able bridge party, Sunday evening, of tho past week in compliment to her sister and house guest, Miss Ernestine Martin of Los Angeles at her home, 225 East First street. A dainty supper was served at the conclusion of the game of cards. Those asked to be with the hostess and honored guest were Mrs. D. Thompson, Miss Beverly Damon, Miss Blanch Hamel, Miss Florence HameL Mrs.

Thomas Sheridan, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Oliver, Valentino Troop, Arthur Donlan, Ed Hamel, Albin Therriault, and Ar-mand Beschamps. Attractive score favors were won by Mrs. Oliver and Mr.

Hamel. New Year's Dinner Party. New Year's day, Mr. and Mrs. Monte Thomson were hosts to a number of friends at a delicious holiday dinner given at o'clock at their home, 1644 South Fifth street, vest.

Covers were laid at the dinner table for Mr. and Mrs. Thomson, Mr, and Mrs. Nets Peterson and Roy Peterson, Mr. and Mrs.

St. Anthony's council, National of Catholic Women, held the first meeting of the new year last Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. P. Fickes, 143 South Fifth street, east, Plans were made at this time for the holding of a shower in the early spring for the benefit of the home for orphan boys which la being maintained by Father Shcvlin at Laurel, Mont. Father Shevlin is attempting to provide a home and additional education lor boys who Neighborhood Bridge Club Monday evening, the members of the Neighborhood Bridge club enjoyed the hospitality of Mr.

and Mrs. E. H. Boos. At this time, Mr.

and Mrs. Boos entertained with a 7 o'clock dinner and bridge at their home, 411 Daly avenue. The guests were seated at small tables artfully decorated in the ever popular holiday colors of red and green, covers being laid for the host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs. C.

Skinner who had charge of the program painted a very interesting and clear cut picture of the lives of the nobility, the middle classes and of the peasants who live in Italy in her excellent review of the book, "Italian Life in Town and Country" written by Villiore. A pleasant hour was spent In discussing Mrs. Skinner's talk and in partaking of the dainty tea served by the hostess. Enjoyable Bridge Tea. Mrs.

H. R. Patton of 122 East Broadway gave an enjoyable bridge tea Thursday afternoon at her home for Mesdames Edward Blaeser, Carl Yeager, Jerry Crego, Fred Zeh, W. L. Mlnnerly, T.

H. McDonald and Glen Smith, card club members. une dainty rerresnments were served by the hostess about .4:30 o'clock. Installation Plans Made. The Women's Benefit Association, No.

32, made extensive plans at a meeting held at Union hall, Tuesday evening, for the installation of the officers who will serve the organization during 1931 and for the entertainment of Mrs. Salome Stafford of Great Falls, state regional director, who will be in the city January 20 to act as Installing officer. A banquet will be served the members honoring Mrs. Stafford preceding the installation ceremonies. Sunday Evening Supper.

Mrs. David Mix, who had charge of the program for the gave a very entertaining talk telling the history of tapestry from the first crude weavlngs to the present day. Many of the great tapestries, now museum pieces, were described and pictures were shown by the speaker in illustration of her talk. Two pleasing vocal selections, "The Night Has a Thousand Eyes," and "Son of the Desert Am were sung by Harry Nottingham with Mrs. Arthur Jacobson playing his accompaniments at the piano.

Pre-School Child Studied. Fear as experienced bj the child under six years of age formed the basis for a beneficial meeting held by the Pre-School Child Study group of the American Association of University women last Monday evening at the home of Mrs, Clare Kern, 120 Madison street. Mrs. Frank E. Beckwith gave the very interesting and comprehensive paper dealing with fear in the pre-school child which was followed by an extended discussion.

This was the largest meeting ever held in the history of this study class. Pleasant Social Session. Mrs. John Hoyer and Mrs. G.

C. Swartz were Joint hostess to about! twenty-five members of the Women's- Catholic Order of Foresters at! a pleasant social session, Monday evening, following the regular business meeting held at Eagles' hall. A game of whist was followed by the serving of a dainty supper. Campus Firesides. Alpha Tau Omega, Sigma Alpha Epsllon and Delta Sigma Lambda fraternities were hosts at enjoyable campus firesides last evening given at the respective chapter homes.

Thompson, was presented with the past noble grand's jewel by the lodge members and the incoming noble grand, Mrs. Jones, was given a handsome bouquet of flowers, the gift of the members of the Past Noble Grand circle. Delicious refreshments were served approximately a hundred members and guests present by the outgoing officers. Scully-Sherer. A wedding of interest to many Missoula friends that tor place the last of the holiday season was that of Hugh Scully, well known young business man of the city, and Miss Louise Slierer, daughter of Dr.

and Mrs. Sherer of Portland, former residents of Helena. The marriage was solemnized at the bride's home In Portland, Tuesday, December 30. The bride and groom were attended by MiRH Virginia Newland of Portland who formerly attended the State University here and J. Mc-Kee Gould of Oregon City.

The bride attended the State University in Missoula for a time where she was pledged to Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Mr. Scully attended the University here for a period of three years. He Ls a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. Mr.

and Mrs. Scully are making their home at the Humble apartments. Gariepy-Worden. A December wedding of interest to many friends in the city was that of Miss Josephine Gariepy, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

D. A. Gariepy of Missoula and Roy Wor-den, son of Otis Worden, also of this city, which was solemnized the fifteenth of the month at the St. Francis Xavler parish rectory, the marriage service being performed by Rev. Father A.

J. Krebsbach. The bride is a graduate of Sacred Heart academy. Mr, and Mrs. Worden are making their home in Missoula where tile groom is associated with his father In the grocery business.

Birthday Party. Mrs. Isaac Oase gave a merry children's party Tuesday afternoon at her home, 712 West Spruce street, In celebration of her daughter, Lu-cllle's fifth anniversary. Games were played and a birthday tea served at a prettily decorated table. A birthday cake with lighted tapers and favors for the guests were add ed bits of interest at refreshment time.

Those present were Lucille Oase, Kenneth Oase, Billy Oase, Blanche Norderhus, Betty Lou Trux-lcr and Rltabelle Lloyd. Outstanding among the larger functions of tho week was the charming no-host luncheon and bridge held Wednesday at 1:30 o'clock at the Cummlngs home, 312 East Pine street, by the members of the Forestry Triangle which includes the women of the Forest service, the Bureau of Public Roads and the wives of the members of the faculty of the forestry school of the State University. At the luncheon hour covers were laid at pleasantly appointed tables for Mrs. O. C.

club were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Campbell last Saturday evening at 7 o'clock at their home in the Orchard Homes district.

Red tulips and red tapers adorned the dinner table at which covers were laid for Mr. and Mrs. Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. James Caras, Mr.

and Mrs. John StahL Mr. and Mrs. Sam Caras, Mr. and Mrs.

Ray Willis, Mrs. Dave Brown and Mrs. Frances Allison. At the close of the game of five hundred which occupied the later evening hours, pretty score gifts were presented to Mr. and Mrs.

Stahl, Mrs. Sam Caras and James Caras. Entertained at Cards. Mr. and Mrs.

Leo L. Croonen-berghs entertained at cards last Saturday evening, at their home on South avenue, west. A late supper was served following the game of five hundred. Score favors were presented to Mrs. J.

W. Veder and Mr. Russell Woods. The guests were Mr. and Mrs.

Russell Woods, Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Kohn and Mr.

and Mrs. J. W. Veder. Russian Music Discussed.

Miss Mary Farrar gave an unusually fine discussion of Russian musical composers, their lives and their music, Thursday afternoon, at a meeting held at the home of Mrs. F. O. Smith on Daly avenue, by the members of the Women's Federation of the University church. Phonograph records were used by Miss Farrar In illustration of her talk.

The meeting was largely attended. Locke-Buchanan. Miss Marian Locke, niece of A. A. Munch of Missoula, and William H.

Buchanan of this city were united in marriage, January 6, in Seattle. Mr. and Mrs. Buchanan are spending a honeymoon in California. They will be at home to their friends in Missoula after February 1.

Mr. Buchanan Is an electrician with the Milwaukee railway. Rebekahs Install Officers. Misf-oula Rebekah Lodge No. 117, held its formal installation ceremonies and initiation services, Monday evening, at the I.

O. O. F. hall. At this time the following recently elected officers were placed in the chairs: Mrs.

Mulroney, Edgar Polleys, Henry Turner and Holly Wilkinson, members of tho Women's entertainment committee for 1930 of the Missoula Country club were gracious host-asses, Tuesday, at their farewell entertainment, the regular monthly luncheon and bridge given for the women of the club and their guests, at 1:30 o'clock at the club home. Bright colored tapers were used to adorn the attractive luncheon tables at which covers were laid for Mrs.

W. Lammers, Mrs. W. O. Dickin are too old for orphan homes of the state and his home is open to any boy regardless of religious affiliations.

He is In need of much help in this work and St. Anthony's council will assist in providing linen for the home and clothes for the boys. Only new articles are re quested for the shower. The excellent program for the day coaslsted of a talk by Mrs. Joseph Hagen upon the subject, "A Challenge to Catholic Loyalty," the review of a chapter from the study book, "The Catholic Ideal of Life," by Rev.

J. M. Cooper, by Mrs. F. H.

Cooney, and the reading of the Catholic News Sheet by Mrs. T. J. Cronln. Rev.

Father D. P. Meade gave a short talk. Appetizing refreshments were served by Mrs. Fickes, assisted by Mrs.

W. Johnson. New Officers Take Charge. The Missoula Hairdressers association held its first meeting of the year, Monday eveng, at the V. W.

C. A. club rooms with the new officers in charge. Those in the chairs were Mrs. Millie Leslie, president; Mrs.

Ruby Dean, vice president; Mrs. Barbara Leur, secretary, and Miss Ooldlo Place, treasurer. A committee appointed by the president to look after sick members of the organization Includes Miss Place, Miss Nellie Jacks and Mrs. Leslie. A campaign for new members was planned and it was decided to hold tho meetings the second Monday of each month at the various places of business of the members.

Returns to Lewiston. Miss Dorothy Brown has returned to Lewiston, Idaho, where she Is city librarian, following the holiday vacation, which she spent at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Brown, of 1331 Phillips street Miss Brown is a graduate of the library school of the State Univer sity. She received her degree with the class of 1930.

Anniversary Surprise. Mr. nnd Mrs. W. L.

Ballev were pleasantly surprised, Sunday evening, January 4, when their daughter, Miss Leah Bailey entertained in their honor in celebration or ineir twentieth wedding anniversary. Cards, radio and piano provided entertainment. Dainty refresh ments were served by the hostess at a late hour. Mr. and Mrs.

Baiiey received many beautiful and useful gifts. The Invited guests were Mr. and Mrs. S. Roy Moffett, Mr.

and Mrs. M. W. Kohn, Mr. and Mrs.

M. L. Townsend. Both Mr. and Mrs.

Townsend are well known In Missoula, where they were reared and where they attended the grade and high schools. Mrs. Townsend was graduated from the high school last June. They will make their home in Missoula, where the groom Is employed by the U. S.

1 was entertained Monday evening by Mrs. Edgar Seguln, Mrs. Frank Therriault and Miss Helen Cass at the Seguln home, 512 Keith avenue. Miss Edith Brown of Helena, field secretary of the state organization, was -present and gave an Interesting talk telling of the work being accomplished by the eight active districts in the state maintaining live organizations. It was reported that in four districts in Montana there are no organized bodies of nurses.
