House Okays Prescription Drug Measure SANTA FE (AP) Druggists would be allowed to substitute cheaper drugs with the same medicinal properties for higher-priced name brand prescriptions under a bill passed by the New Mexico House. The measure, which cleared the House on a 66-1 vote Friday, is sponsored by an Albuquerque druggist, Rep. Dennii Pena, D-Bernalillo. Pena said there arc 15-20 major drug manufacturers producing the same generic drug, which is marketed under greatly varying prices. The druggists will be allowed to substitute the generic drugs, according to regulations adopted by the Department of Health. Pena said HEW will release a list of Jrugs that are identical but produced under different brand names.
