TW NOTEBOOK By: Ed With more and more new television stations coming into play, the term "fringe area" assumes increasing importance. Smaller towns and rural areas some distance from the transmitting station will feel the sting of being located on the fringe of ideal reception.

Signals from a TV transmitter travel in straight lines, thus they are restricted to "line of sight" coverage which probably averages about 50 miles. Near the transmitter, of course, the signals are strong, but as distance increases the signals gradually weaken as they approach the so-called fringe area. However, these areas needn't suffer for the lack of suitable reception if a few tricks are practiced to gain every bit of signal possible. Special antennas, booster amplifiers and special lead-in wires all serve to increase the Decessary signal. Also, antenna height is important.

Incidentally, if your thoughts stray to parking before a 21- inch set in your living room to enjoy color TV, it looks as if that great day is still a couple of years away. Predictions relating to color are as commonplace and every bit as unreliable as weather reports. Weather reports may be unreliable, but you can always rely ptbe Quality RCA to be the most DEPENDABLE TV set manufactured today. For Clarity of Picture and Tone, the RCA never lets you down. May we have the privilege of demonstrating this Superior Set to you at BARNETT'S BARGAIN BARN.
