The Seahawk8 took Kelly In the seventh round In April. Holmgren Is undoubtedly hoping to have the same magic with Kelly that he did with another Southern Miss QB. Back in 1992, Holmgren and the Green Bay Packers acquired Brett Favre from the Altanta Falcons and the rest, so to speak, Is history.

In looking over the Jacksonville Jaguars' coaching staff, there Is one person who might look for an administration job with maor league baseball if this coaching gig doesn't work out. First-year Jacksonville offensive assistant Ty Knott could work with Bud Selig. Who, might you ask, was the last team to beat the New England Patriots last season before their Super Bowl run. Interestingly enough, It was the St. Louis Rams on Nov.

18. Then the Patriots won their last six regular-season games along with three in the playoffs. By the way. something to look at for this season: The last two Super Bowl winners have had their bye week In December. The Pats, in 2001 got to rest the second to last week of the regular season.

The Ravens, in 2000, had the first week of December off. Spoaklng of tho Patriots, they and former quarterback Drew Bledsoe will have about half the season under their belts before they face each other. On Nov. 3, the Pats head to Buffalo to face Bledsoe and the Buffalo Bills. Maybe Bledsoe can use this little item as inspiration: The past three years, the eventual Super Bowl winner has not been on the Monday Night Football schedule.

This year, for the first time in more than a decade, the Bills will have their Monday nights free. Longtime Mustangs scorekeeper retires BILLINGS (AP) After 25 years as the scorekeeper for the Billings Mustangs, Jack Skinner has announced his retirement. Skinner, a Los Angeles native, was a member of the Mustangs' inaugural team in 1948, and spent 2Vi years playing second base for Billings. He moved to the scorekeeper's spot to augment his income as a postal worker, he said. Skinner, 77, also coached area Little League teams, American Legion baseball teams and sometimes worked as a Legion official. He even umpired a Mustangs game occasionally, he said.

National Elway's twin sister dies at 42 DENVER (AP) Jana Elway-Sever, twin sister of former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway, has died after a battle with cancer. Elway-Sever died at Stanford Hospital in Stanford, Calif. She was 42. The Elways went to grade school in Missoula in the late 1960s and early 1970s, when their father, Jack Elway, was an assistant football coach at the University of Montana. The family later moved to Pullman, before settling in Southern California where the twins attended high school.

It was the second death in the family in 15 months. Jack Elway died April 15, 2001, of an apparent heart attack. Smith), $4 40, 3, Exile (Tim Lampre. 53 seconds behind, 3 Laszlo Bodrogi, Hungary, Mapel, 1 06. 4 David Millar.

Juan Carlos Ferrero and Alex Corretja won semifinal matches Saturday, setting up an all-Spanish final in the $1 million Generali Open at Kitzbuehel, Austria. The eighth-seeded Corretja defeated sixth-seeded Gaston Gaudio 6-3, 6-1 in just over an hour, and second-seeded Ferrero beat 12th-seeded Mariano Zabaleta 6-7 (2), 7-5, 6-3. Russian teenager Dlnara Saflna won her first WTA Tour title Saturday when Henrieta Nagyova quit during the final of the Prokom Open at Sopot, Poland, because of a foot injury.

With her booming serve falling perfectly, Venus Williams was simply too much for Lisa Raymond. Top-seeded Williams overpowered her unseeded challenger 6-3, 6-0 Saturday in the semifinals of the Bank Of the West Classic. A funny thing happened when Jan-Michael Gamblll backed up 10 feet behind the baseline to receive Andy Roddick's powerful serves. He won. Gambill defeated his good friend Roddick 7-5, 6-3 in Saturday's Ail-American semifinal at the Mercedes-Benz Cup.
