Chief Deputy Harold Spriggs of the Bradley County Office said three of the dead were killed when the twister ouched down in the Farmville Community, an area known for its tomato fields.

I was notified that Farmville had been lut but I couldn't find a read open to get into the area, I finally the Banks road and got near Farmville before trees again blocked my way. 1 walked into the area and found what you see now," Spriggs said Saturday The deputy said it took some 45 minutes to cut a road for ambulances. Deputy Spriggs identified those killed in Farmville as Berda Stoddard, no age given, Marilyn Kobinson. no age given, and Danny Boyd, no age given. Spriggs said he found Boyd near a giant uprooted tree and said Mrs.

Stoddard's body was found several hundred yards away from the. residence. The Kobinson body was found in the rubble of the house. Spriggs said Mr. and Mrs.

B. Boyd, who owned the residence, were both hospitalized for injuries suffered in the storm. Spriggs said the other four persons died inside the city limits of Warren. The other dead were identified as Ellis Clanton, Faye McKinstry, John Frye and Centenval Morgan. One of the men who died in Warren was a bookkeeper at the Potlatch sawmill facility and was killed on the job.

Frye's wife died as a result of the 1949 twister and Frye was critically injured at that time. Spriggs said Mrs. car, which was parked near the Boyd residence, was blown some three-fourths of a mile. The motor and transmission were at least half mile from the car Spriggs said. Both the YWCA and National Guard Armory, in addition to several churches, were opened late Friday night to accommodate an estimated 1.500 homeless persons.

The Potlatch facility was battered nearly beyond recognition with lumber scattered throughout the huge facility, rooftops ripped off and large smokestacks were laid on the ground. Two large water storage tanks were splattered with sheets of tin from ground level nearly all the way to the top. By late Saturday morning the numbness that normally companies such natural disasters had worn off and hundreds were at work in attempt to restore any possible buildings for housing. Much of the work, however, was directed toward removing rubble from the streets in order that emergency vehicles could move more easily. Law enforcement officers turned back many sightseers at several points within the city and on incoming highways.

Crews from Arkansas Power and Light and Southwestern Bell Telephone were still frantically working late Saturday night attempting to restore numerous utility poles snapped by the fury of the twister, At least three major phone cables were cut and officials sure exactly when that service would be restored.
