Owners of marauding dogs. which have killed 11 head of sheep and 13 chickens in Eel township in the past six weeks will be prosecuted it they are identified, Township Trustee Loyd Copeland ed Wednesday. Copeland reported that 12 chickens belonging to Mrs. Charles Martin. route 2, were killed Monday and two sheep belonging to James Brown were killed Sunday night by dogs.

Brown has lost a total of seven sheep to dogs in the past six weeks while Ralph Stewart has lost four. All of the attacks reported have been in the west part the township. The dogs apparently are being turned loose at night by their owners, Cope and said. The Jaw prorides that the owner or the person harboring the dog is responsible for any damage done by the animal when it runs at large, he pointed out. The township is required to inburse the owners for losses they sustain through attacks from dogs.

Bunche, principal director of the United Nations trusteeship department, was confronted Tuesday by two former Communist leaders at a secret 12- hour inquiry by a U.S.

government loyalty board. A close associate of the Negro U.N. administrator said Bunche "welcomed the chance to clear himself." Pierce J. Geretty, chairman of the six-man international organization's employes loyalty board, questioned Bunche in presence of former Negro Communists ning Johnson and Leonard Patterson who have given information to several congressional investigatreeling committees concerning I munist infiltration in labor unions, churches and schools. Neither Bunche, who won the Nobel Peace prize for his role as peacemaker in the Israel-Arab conflict, nor Gerety would comment on the inquiry.

Gerety said, however, that "no inference should be drawn from the fact that he (Bunche) had a meeting with the board." Bunche's associate described the inquiry as "rough and tough" at times. "Of course, like many other peopie, Dr. Bunche has been associated with Communists in the the associate said. "He is confident that he will be cleared quickly." The Federal Bureau of Investigation has investigated the records of 1,760 American employes at the United Nations to check their loyalties. Of these, only 32 cases have been considered serious enough to be heard by the loyalty board.

Winamac Lady Dies Suddenly at Home WINAMAC, Ind. Mrs. Virgie Adkins Phalps, 68, died suddenly at 1:30 o'clock Wednesday morning at her home, 528 South Market street. Born on February 18, 1886 in Morehead, she came to Winamac four years ago from Illincis. Her marriage on May 10, 1906 was to Clarence Phalps, who sur-.

A record $844,274.21, representing more than 58 percent of the spring installment of property taxes collected in Cass county, will go to the schools, it was reported tday by County Auditor Richard Gohl after the state auditor's office approved the spring settlement Tuesday. Current and delinquent taxes on personal property and real estate collected this spring in Cass totaled $1,425,570.25, while bank tax brought an additional $20.511.12 and building and loan tax $581.58 for a grand total of $1,416,662.95.

The property tax collected this spring $120,000 more a year ago, most of the increase going to the schools, it was reported. Of the $844,274.21 going to the schools, $51,282.05 goes to the state for school purposes and the remainder, $792,992.16 is to be distributed among the local schools.
