Ruhoff, 65 Lemmon Frank L. Whitney Louis W. Hemesath Memorial services for longtime Methodist minister Frank Leslie Whitney, 80, Rapid City, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Canyon Lake Methodist Church, with the Rev. Julian Wigen and the Rev.

Ken Moreland officiating. He died Sunday at his home following a Whitney lengthy illness with cancer. Whitney The cremains will be placed at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis during a family service. A memorial was established. He was born April 29, 1911, on a claim in Harding County, S.D., the third child of Simeon J.

and Harriet (Esmay) Whitney. Because of his mother's death when he was a small child, he lived in Wessington Springs with his Esmay grandparents and later with an aunt and uncle, Lena and Art Beers. He received his elementary schoolsing in Wessington Springs and gradsuated from high school there in 1928. He attended Wessington Springs College where he received an associrate of arts degree. His further education included a year at John Fletcher College in Indianola, Iowa, and a B.A.

degree from 'Dakota Wesleyan University at Mitchell in 1934. He earned a bacheTor of sacred theology and a master's of psychology from Boston University in 1936. That same year he was ordained deacon in the South Dakota Methodist Conference and in 1937 was ordained elder. He married Evelyn Bidleman at Wessington Springs in 1937. During World War II, he served three years as a chaplain in the Air Force and was inducted into the first group of U.S.

Air Force Chaplain Corps. He was assigned to the 490th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force and stationed at the U.S. Base in Eye, England. During active service he received a Victory Medal, Presidential Unit Citation and a EAME Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Stars. He was discharged with the rank of major.

He served pastorates in Methodist churches in South Dakota for more than 40 years. He also was executive secretary of education, mission and evangelism for the conference for five years. He taught school five years, including a rural school in Jerauld County and was superintendent at Fulton High School for a year. He retired from the ministry in1976 and was involved in ranching and real estate on an acreage north of Pactola Reservoir for 12 years. Survivors include his wife, of Rapid City; three children, Charles Whitney of Laramie, Constance Howard of Rapid City and Richard Whitney of New York City; a brother, Kenneth Whitney of Palm Harbor, a sister, Lucille Noack of Philip; three grandchildren, Keri Kennedy of Rapid City, Myles Kennedy of Minneapolis and Paul Whitney of New York City; and many nieces and nephews.

Osheim-Catron Funeral Home of Rapid City is in charge of arrangements. Gary E. Hilmer HERMOSA Services are pending for Gary E. Hilmer, 39, Hermosa, who died Sunday at Belle Fourche. Survivors include his wife, Katy of Hermosa; his father, Royce Hilmer of Kansas; three sisters, Leah Potter and Marianne Hardy, both of Pocatello, Idaho, and Carla Burns of Grants, N.M.; and a brother, Dana Hilmer of Kansas.

CUSTER Eight adults and one juvenile have been charged alcohol with to vio- miof furnishing nors as a result of a Custer County sting operation. Initial appearances for the adults have been set for Aug. 28 in Custer Magistrate Court. The juvenile case will be heard in closed juvenile court proceedings in September.

According to Custer County State's Attorney Karen Johnson, law en- Ear biter sentenced to 6 years By Bill Harlan Journal Staff Writer A man convicted of biting off his girlfriend's earlobe was sentenced to six years in prison Monday. Ronald Lewis Lybarger, 24, also was ordered to pay medical costs for his victim, who did not want to press charges and who did not testify against him. The Pennington County state's attorney's office refused to dismiss the charges. Seventh Circuit Judge Roland Grosshans gave Lybarger credit for 96 days already served in the Pennington County Jail. Lybarger was accused of biting the woman's arms, face and ear.

Her left earlobe was severed and found in the couple's bed. Police said Lybarger, who was charged with felony aggravated assault, was very drunk when he was arrested. The victim told police Lybarger was angry because he believed she had left a bar with another man. Nemo Road closed for construction for two days Nemo Road will be closed today and Wednesday to repair damage from spring rains. The road is closed about five miles from Rapid City.

Motorists are requested to take Rimrock Highway and Norris Peak Road around the construction. Beginning Thursday, and for two weeks, the road will be open for through traffic from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and again from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

There could be 20-minute delays, said a spokesman for Zandstra Construction, the contractor. The road began eroding in late May following a week of heavy rains. Barricades were put up on the east side of the road. The Pennington County Commission recently approved spending $550,000 to repair the section of road. A rosary-scripture service will be at 7 p.m. in the church.

He died Sunday at Maryhouse Nursing Home in Pierre. Burial will be in Holy Angels Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is set for noon to 6 p.m. today at Hofmeister Funeral Chapel in Pierre. Hemesath was born April 27, 1905, to Frank and Emelia (Imoehl) Hemesath in Ossian, Iowa.

He was educated at St. Fancis De Sales Catholic School. He came to Presho with his parents, brothers and sisters in March 1919. He was a lifelong member of the Catholic church and was an altar boy for many years. He was an officer on both the township board and the farmers elevator in Presho.

He spent most of his life farming. In 1988 he moved in with his brother, Edward Hemesath, and lived there until April 15 when he was admitted to a hospital. After that he lived at Maryhouse Nursing Home until his death. Survivors include five sisters, Catherine Brodrecht, Anna Hemesath, Clara Hemesath, all of Maryhouse in Pierre, and Rose Broderecht and Helen Jacoby, both of Presho; and two brothers, Edward Hemesath and Frank Hemesath, both of Presho. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Aloysius Hemesath and Joseph Hemesath; and one sister, Amalia Hemesath.

Mae Deady FAULKTON Services for Mae Deady, 90, longtime Faulk County resident and former telephone switchboard operator who died Aug. 14, were held Monday at the United Church of Faulkton. One business owner, Karen Cook of Tortilla Flat Restaurant, of Custer, Police blotter The Pennington County Sheriff's Department is investigating the theft of cash Saturday from a tourist attraction on Highway 16 South. The cash was stolen Saturday. There was no forced entry, and investigators have suspects. Rapid City police are investigating the theft of a fiberglass pickup topper valued at $900. The topper was stolen from the 3600 block of Chief Drive in Rapid City.

Police also are investigating the theft Sunday of motors from three satellite dishes at a Rapid City sports bar. The dishes were damaged, and the loss estimated at $4,550. Police are investigating several building and vehicle burglaries reported last week: Burglars caused more than $300 in damage when they broke into a vehicle parked in the SCI parking lot sometime between 10 p.m. Thursday and 1 a.m. Friday.

Taken were an Alpine stereo, a black and white Emerson television set, 35 cassette tapes and a checkbook. Total loss was listed at $1,175. Burglars escaped with $1,500 in stereo equipment after breaking into a business on the 2700 block of east Highway 44 sometime between Aug. 9 and 10. Taken were a Kenwood compact disc player, a Kenwood cassette player, two Kenwood speakers and a Kenwood amplifier.

A vehicle parked a at the business was also burglarized. Missing were a disc player, speakers and stereo, all valued at $800. Stereo equipment and tapes valued at $850 were stolen out of a 1987 white Nissan parked at Rushmore Mall Friday. rolled into one was charged with two sale of alcohol to a minor through an employee and permitting a person under age 18 to sell alcoholic beverages. The first charge is a Class I misdemeanor punishable by fine and one year in jail. The second is a Class II misdemeanor punishable by a $100 fine and 30 days in jail. An employee of Tortilla Flat was cited as the juvenile selling alcohol to Records Burglars forced open an air conditioner vent and stole $400 from a business, in the 2300 block of St. Andrew Street Friday morning.

Finally, on Sunday, a man was caught picking two flowers in a city park. According to the police report: "He was warned never to pick public flowers again. He promised he wouldn't." Watering restrictions Rapid City has restrictions on outside watering.

Outside watering is permitted only from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. In addition, odd-numbered addresses can water on odd-numbered days, and even-numbered addresses can water on even-numbered days.
