English Lutheran school was formed! in July, 1839, and now numbers 15 teachers and 120 scholars. The Christian school was formed in 1843, at organization of the Chapel congregation. That body now hu 5 schools; 65 teachers and 721 scholars, which embraces one mission school. The Congregationellsts sustain '2 schools, 8B teach ers and 262 scholars. The. 'Universaliat'Societv. organized in December; 187 1, has 1 school, teachers and 3-1 scholars. Iti versa de Mission, located in the southwestern part of the city, numbered 12 teachers and 115 scholars. This is an independent school, on tha union The Y.

The German population are somewhat nu merously divided as to denominational lines, but are fully united in their- estimate pf the importance of the Sabbath School work. Of the German Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church there is one school, twenty teachers and 1 GO scholars. Mr. E. L. Williams followed with one of his characteristic speeches to the littleones.

These services were interspersed with choice singing, led by A. M. Benhami who hastily improvised a choir from material picked out of the audience.
