Last evening's Pierre train brought In the Lead Glee Club and Orchestra, and a fine entertainment was given in Library hall. Tho orchestra gave several selections with splendid effect. The committee meeting was largely attended. Gov. Crawford was in 'attendance.

Mr. and Mrs. if. M. Johnson, of Creston, were in the city last evening on their way to Redfern, where Mr.

Johnson has some lumber sawing to do for a short time. They have a homestead at Creston. Superintendent Higelow, of the Lead Schools, was an arrival yesterday morning to meet the pupils from lils High school who have been touting tho state, lie visited the School of Mines during the day, and will accompany the club home this morning. Mrs. Addle Purdy, of Homer, who has been visiting here with her mother, Mrs.

Shaw, left for home last evening, accompanied by her two children. Mrs. Shaw was recently operated on at Dead-wood for cancer, and is recovering. Sho is now here with her Bister, Mrs. Ed Greathouse.

It. Penfold, cashier of the Uutte county Hank at Hello Fourche, was in the city yesterday on his way home from a business trip to Leni-mon. Mr. and Mrs. Chunrey L. Wood and little daughter returned Mondoy morning from Seattle, where lr. Wood recently went to bring home (Mrs.

Wood and the baby, who had been visiting there for the past few months. Mr. Wood suj'B ho bad a greit trip, and saw a lot of nice country. He was at Seattle five years ago. when they claimed a population 75,000, and now there are 250,000 people there bustling and bustling around.

The panic hurt them some, and as a consequence there are many idlo men, but still not enough that the city has to care for them as la the case in many other large cities. Building is the principal lino ct business carried on, at least, that is the way it seemed to Mr. Wood. The excavation made necessary iiy the large amount of building being done there is estimated to have cost as much as It Is costing San Francisco to rebuild after the devastating earthquake and Ore which visited that city a year ago last June. Mr.

Wood said that although Scuttle Is a great city for business, and la a beautiful place, yet he has no desire to live there. The flowers were blooming, the vegetables growing, and everything had an air of summer, rrhe market gardeners were at work in the fields, and all sorts of vegetables were ungathered. Mr. Wood said as far as he Is concerned' he likes the changes of the seasons, and- he enjoys getting back to a touch of winter. Mrs.

Wood had a pleasant visit with her mother, (Mrs. Art McDonald, and son, Roy Frank. Mr. Frank is practicing law there, the Brm being Rice, Frank ti Norton. They have an olllce in th Mutual Life builuing, and are enjoj lng a good practice.

Mr. Wood saw a number of former Rapid Cityltes, all of whom seem to lie prospering. Robert Herron and Charles Slick are both working for the big Nelson hardware Ann, and are doing well. T. J.

Elliott Is well satisfied with the move he made when he went from here, and well he may lie, for he la one-third owner of a large saw mill worth about J100.000. L. Gardner Is in the real estate business and making a good stake. W. Jl.LaDco is also In tho lumber business, working for a big outfit la Lake Union.

Lee Day Is another Rapid City wan who is working for a firm. He Is doing well, like the rest. Mr. Wood saw Mrs. Robert Flor-mann and Miss Frankie, They look tha same a Tr.

William McFarland, employed on the North-Western section crew, was arrested Monday by Tom Hewett, deputy sheriff, charged with having sloleit snow fences from the Pierre line near Underwood. McFarland has a claim near Underwood and it is alleged that ho appropriated boards enough from snow fences to build a shack on his claim. Bond was fixed at one hundred dollars. Preliminary hearing Wednesday.

Mrs. A. F. Ho wring went to Deadwood last, evening to spend a day with relatives. (Mrs.

Frank Long, of Oelrlclis. was in town yesterday, returning home in the evening. Miss Ab'bie and Cornelius Leary returned last evening from a stay on the former's claim near Qulnn. Mrs. E.

F. Roberts left yesterday for Eothen. Wyoming, where her mother, Mrs. Steven Gels, is very 111. Miss Myrtle Anderson left last evening for Nebraska City, Nebraska, where she expects to spend some time.

Mrs. W. A. Taylor, of Hermosa, went to Lead yesterday forenoon after a few days' visit with friends in the city. -Charles Swanson left yesterday for his home at Rochford after a few days visit with his brother, V.
