Fifty years from now the aged Dakotan v(ill take his grandchild upon' his knee ahd relate how that ho can remember a time when the railroads only went as far west as the Missouri river, and how that In the year 1907 after an Influx of people the two great railroad systems made a race for the Hills and the representative of the new generation of people will look In wonder and try to Imagine a time when conditions were so new aud crude. The connecting of the eastern portion of the state with the western and a direct route to the coast makes an epoch in the stale's history and will be a decided advantage.

Ueresford Republic. The year 1907 will be one long to lie remembered by the people of South Dakota. The completion of the two lines of railroad extending from the Missouri river to Hapld City will open an epoch In the history of the state, the magnitude of which can not even be Imagined. The Northwestern line la already completed from Pierre to Rapid City and within the next week' the Milwaukee will have completed Its road from Chamberlain to Rapid City. The development of the state for the past six years has been the marvel of the entire Union.

Tho production of wealth per capita has surpassed that of any other state for the past five years. With the completion of these two railroads across the hitherto great undeveloped region lying between the Missouri and the Hlack Hills and connecting Ihe fertile fields of the eastern half of the state with the richest 100 square miles In the world, what may we not expect in the way of rapid development. Kvery portion of the state will throb with new life and the city of Mitchell, standing as it does at the gateway of this great undeveloped region, has before It the opjiortunlty to see its fondest hopes fully realized. The last serious drawback to the develop- ment of the state has now been removed.
