See Ad Below For Details The city of Detroit hasfinally come up withanother way to honor Joe Louis, the late iconic boxer who brought the na- tion together during World War II when he defeated German Max Schmeling in a fight that transcended sports. And big. When the Joe Louis Arena is torn down, Detroiters could see name spread across the entire city literally. Mayor Mike Duggan has proposed the creation of the Joe Louis Greenway, a pe- destrian and bike pathway that will, as Louis did, bring people together by connect- ing neighborhoods through- out the city to the Detroit RiverWalk, according to documents obtained by the Detroit Free Press.

If approved by the Detroit City Council, the 26-mile loop of bike and pedestrian paths will not only provide safe passage from neigh- borhood to neighborhood, but also to Detroit from neighboring Hamtramck, Highland Park, Ferndale and Dearborn all without cars. Kriste Kibbey Etue will be eligible for a one-time payment of more than $500,000, plus an annual pension of just under $92,000, when she re- tires at the end of Feb- ruary, a state official said Monday. Caleb Buhs, a spokesman for the De- partment of Technol- ogy, Management and Budget, said media re- ports Monday that pegged an- nual pension at $141,000 per year are incorrect. Buhs also released a department record that shows Etue, as of Sept.

30, had a $502,000 balance in a deferred compensation account established for her in 2012 under the De- ferred Retirement Option Plan (DROP). Upon her retirement, Etue can take that amount in a lump sump or draw on it to further sweeten her annual pension. The Free Press reported earlier this month that Gov. Rick Snyder plans to re-appoint Etue as director upon her retirement, meaning she will be able to and collect her $92,000 pension on top of her $165,000 salary through the end of 2018, when final year in of- fice expires. Etue has faced a barrage of criti- cism and calls for her resignation or firing over a meme she shared on her personal Facebook page on Sept.

Even celebrities, such as actor and former rapper Mark Wahlberg, are singing the praises. But, even if Detroit No. 1 in the Lonely Planet ranking, folks who closely follow these lists said they will gladly take No. 2 for now.
