We see some of the Texas papers are advo cating expansion in the nope that it will make money more plentiful, but how can we expect to have money in the State when ourpeople are continually sending it abroad? Money is sent here during the fall and winter to purchase our cotton: our cattle and hides bring the cash; and aid We but keep our currency at home, we would have ah abundance for all business purposes; but this is the' very thing we do not do. As fast as the money comes to the State, it is sent out again. long as we pursue such a policy we can not expect money to be plentiful, and an increase greenbacks is not going to give any permanent relief.

Let our people learn to husband the resources of this great State. The Com it tee say the accounts of the Department, from its organization in Jane, 1870, to Jan uary, 1S74, have been properly- kept, and vouchers for all moneys expended returned to the Treasury Department The amount expended for contingencies from. isu, -to January is 4, were as follows: rom July 1. 1870. to June 30.1S71. 1873. to December 31. 1873. 113,811 06: total, $75,874 This large amount of expenditure -is partly explained by the fact that in order to fit up a new De partment it became necessary to procure fur niture, a suitable law library, desks, presses. tables, Sec.

The Committee think that while -most of the said sum was legitimately expended, a part was improperly expended in the absence of specific appropriations for the articles for which the disbursements were The Committee say that this Department is no exceDtion in this reeard. but that similar expenditures are made and have been made for manv years tast in all the Departments.
