(AP) New Oregon State football coach Jerry Petti-bone has an incentive to end the Beavers' 26-year absence from a son bowl game. Pettibone and his assistants will receive a bonus of one month's salary if the school is selected for a bowl game. The performance clause is contained in a renegotiated contract between Pettibone and Oregon State. The clauses were not included in previous Oregon State football coaching contracts. Oregon State's last postseason appearance was in 1965, when Michigan beat the Beavers' 34-7 in the Rose Bowl.

Pettibone, who left Northern Illinois to become Oregon State coach after last season, originally signed a five-year contract. The renegotiated contract has been shortened to a three years with a "rollover' agreement that can be activated each year. Pettibone always would have three years on his contract as long as it was rolled over. Pettibone's base salary remains the same, $82,200 per year plus $25,000 for his radio-television package.
