There will be a concert at tbe Erie Ml ion Chapel fhia evening, (Nor. 9th.) for the morning. A most interesting fame may be expected, as there wtll be reports from the various prayer-meeUaga of last evening, with especial reference to tbe topic, How shall we secure the spiritual results which, as Sunday School workers, have a right to expect From each church tn city, there trUl come a aunvrnln tip of tb various suggestlone offered, and the result eanaot be beneficial to all who attend, and through the whole county.

In the afternoon, at o'clock, the Bnnlay School Teachers' Institute begins its sessions. The progiamme is at follow .) to 3 Opening exercises. to 8:46 Bible study Kujah and the Prophets Baal. Conducted by Mr. Wm.

Lawrence 3:46 to eUS-xCoaversafioa on Methods of Bible Teaching. i8 OB Inspiration of Scrip tnre, Rev. C. H. Fowler.

,1" Uil connection we may observe that the Bible Study" above referred to will he a practical il-ust ration of the method of conducting a large Bible class, auch as rs in present operation at th Second Baptist Sunday School, in this city. Mr. Uwrence, na teacher, has rare qualifications for the import ant station which he no-v holds, and the utmost success attends his labors. Tbeie, Sabbith Sabbath, in regular attendance, are to be found some one iimrtretl rnd fitt young people, of deeply interested in the study of the Holy Word. There, good influences are thrown around those bo attend, out of the hweclasa of young men of our city who have no religions home.

Tb're. focial relations with Christian people are established, and every effort is sought to be made draw tbe young a way from the demoralizing so rife in every large city. It is a noble class, and most ably handled. It has ceased to be an experiment in any sense, and it would be well if every Sabbath School should copv excellent example, in order that the hosta of young men who throng our hotels and boarding boutes might fina an attraction ihe Sabbath to laces where good, rather than evil, is inculcated, here I a practical benevolence, a Christian work involved, which cannot tail to elevate the social and mora! standard of our city, and it is one wbiih will confer pleasure and lasting benefit upon concerned. The evening session of tbe Institute will be de- ITAlsIAW OPlTtRA.

The new season a inaupwrated. The new artists have sung, and jrodgmenls as To their merits are beginning to be formed, although the inaugural evening affords hardry a fair test. A Mir audience and rnew house bring with them more or less of en arrasement, anu the effects were visible last even-lug. The audience was large, but not a genuine operatic one. The habitues were not there, although here and there an old stager and bis lorgnelte were visible, and an opera cloak, suggestive ol the souvenirs of past seaaona.

Tbe house was sober, save where the white gleamed sepulchrally. The scarlet and gold ere lacking. This is the fate of Trov-atore. It is a twice told tale, and only those possessed ot India rubber patience and cast iron endurance do It. It virtonlly died years since But there are yet artists with courage to sing it, and audiences with temerity to hear it, and we question whether its florid music will ever cease entirely to be sung and played.

We have never yet ben able thoroughly to comprehend the mysteries of tbe argument of the Trove tore, and after last evening's rendition, W3 are no wiser than beiore. It is the milk in the operatic cocoanut, the mystery of which no artist has yet been competent to thoroughly elucidate. The music can be comprehended by tha dullest ear. Its glittering superficiality and meretricious efiecti are patent to everybody, and in these respects, toth as to mueic and action, we regret that we make the acquaintance of any of the artists of the new troupe with Trovatore as chaperon. Colletti broke the ice with the abbUtta Ztnoara, which he sang very well, and in a staccato style rather nnusual for him.

Since his last appearance here he has been growing stout and aldermanic, which does not im- Srove his vocalization, but at the same time he is eeerving the credit of doing everything as well aa he can. Guidt's appearance in tbe second scene was made the occasion of a very cordial reception, evidently the result of her beautiful physique. A fine, expressive lace, flashing Italian eye, graceful sweep ol arm and elegantly moulded hand manufacture sympathy very readily and gave to her the advantage of nxing the attention of the audience. She was, however, evidently embarrassed at the stm, and did not do her-elf justice the taceQ la notte but in the succeeding air, di tale amor she sang with so much spirit that she won an encore. Her voice is round, smooth, and of very sweet quality.

Her lower register is remarkably neb and her nign-est very efiective and clear, but her mezzo voice is not strong. In fact, tbrongoout tbe entire register the a all tv is better than the ouantiiv. Power ia voieu io ineoescnption and illustration of "The Model Sunday School." A large number of classes been selected, and will assemble at the church, tbeir teachers. Promptly, at half past 7 o'clock. rniecB in commence ana continue one hour.

Fev. J. H. Vincent, will act as Superintendent, and those who desire to see how a school be conducted, in order to insure all the objects desired in this gieat work, should go early. The closing session ol the Institute will occur tomorrow alteraoon, irhen the programme will be as fellows 8:30 to 2:45 Opening exercises.

2:45 to 8:30 An object lesson, by Miss M. E. Davis. 3:30 to 4 Conversation on object teaching. to 4:30 Geographical recitation.

Subject: Hebron. T1IE COlSiTV ELECTION. The lateness of the hour at which the returns made up on Tuesday, from the most tardy of election precincts in the city, rendered it impossible to guard against errors by the usual process of revision, time not being allowed for this be the paper went to press. We present to-day a corrected statement of the vote so far as the results been ascertained. The returns from the county have been nearly all banded in under seal to office of the County Clerk.

It will probably be or three days beiore the vote of the county is declared oftkiallv. In the Eleventh Ward Milliard received but 101 votes, of which 73 were in the second precincL SS3 votes credited to Hiiliard were given to Wilde, the candidate for Assistant Supervisor. In the Tenth Ward K. H. Aiken, the Union candidate for Ward Supervisor, was elected instead of Gould, the bolting candidate.

Frank Kohont, the elected Supervisor for the Second Warn, was the Union candidate. in the first paragraph of the report, the average majority was slated to be about It was intended to read ",800." K. Looker, who srioke as follows: Pcrsonalire the mass by a svstem of teaching, that show clearly the relation each individual sustains to God and the world. The majority of those persons who do not belong to theCbristian chnrch recognize the church in its true position under the to God. while by some strange hallucination disconnect themselves from God aud mankind, leaving the great work of moralizing (so far as human at'cncy is cencemed) to the professedly Christian portion of ibe community. This error once comcted a laive and valuable" accession of power, financially and otherwise wonld be brought to bear lavor ol tbe great Sabbath School enterprise which, under present circumstances, is not only but actually arrayed against us with telling efieci.

The unconverted man's dollar will purchase much reading matter that will have as good an on the reader's mind as though be were the devoted Christian. His paternal command as certainly place his child in the school. Then let this class of "persons feel, by our words actions, that we hold them responsible, that tOCiefv has lust claims un them tlt cannot be absolved. Lei us turn our virntion to the Chmch. It is a bich we acknowledge with shame, that whose names are registered In the Church Book, do net recognize their true relation, not feel that they are part and parcel of ecfive body, that her duty is their dutv.

Then let the church arise in her strenmh I herald the truth of all truths, from every hill- 1 t'nj Kiiu on every plain, tne oie ine siuoy ai once most glorious ly Interesting practically ueeml for time aud etemitv. Mr.

Batbaway felt that the great task before the hers was to make the studies of tbeir classes interesting and attractive, so that the great truths inculcated by them will be likely to nrike with force etlect into the mmds of the young peo-p'e. The teachers must study more and mote, not one hour or two hours. but If necessary fifteen and twenty hours a week. Thus laboring earnestly and prayerfully in great ork, snecess will be found to be more frequent and more snbstantial. Mr.

S. M. Root considered the time and manner of holding the Bible class for the young and women of the congregations. His euorts always been attended by greatest success when class was held just upon the close of the regular morning services, many people remaining to participate being attracted by the singing. Then agaro.be had situated the class at the entrance of room, so that every one who entered the room could sit quietly down without having to walk the length of a full school room.

Rev. J. II. Vincent thought that in the condition our Sabbath schools, an old motto was veiy applicable" Like priest tike people." Let tbe ministry take a lively, an earnest interest their Sabbath schools, aud they would be speedily rewarded for their labors. To do this and give proper attention to the subject, he believed they should not be required to occupy their entire time preparing senrons.

One sermon, thoroughly prepared and none but such should be delivered sufficient to occupy a minister during the week, to give him time to look also at other pas- i duties. Ihe reverend speaker was briefly followed by Mr. E. Clifford. V.t.

Boring and Mr. Fay. Ihe latter in concluding" his sugges- lions, remarked that if the church could be led to regard tbe Sabbaih school as a part, of itself, whose interests were identical with its oun, and the young I ople appreciate that a Bible class was not a place them to forsake at an early age, but one for them to remain in 1 israys, much good would result. 1 audience then snmr the hymn triTTi rnpii7ing Blest is the tie." The question been considered in this country, and it has been propoped bv the Sunday Scnool Publishing and Educational Committee to carefully prepare a eeries oflewonii, with araiyes. for the aid of the teachers, yet leaving open mncb for the teacher to tMudy and prepare.

Thse tewona would be pnb- npnea in ine na advance. and tbe adoption of tbe project would be found moft desirable and snccessfnl. Its usefulness wonld be felt in teachers meet- rogs, and be believed that by means of the Magazine and the Teachers'' Institute the uniform system lessons would be found one of the most effective instrumentalities in enhancing the Sunday school work. Mr. Meeker had labored In the Sunday school work in New York, thirty or forty years ago, when the ejs'em of uniform lessons was adopted, and proved very successful.

Kev. Rockwell had seen in schools wnere all the teachers and speakers spoke on different subjects, there was no central thought possessed by the children. Let there be one subject for the lessons, and thr remarks after school be upon the same subject, when a great and everlasting benefit will be found to ensue, specially would the improvement be felt by those who were engaged in. two schools on the same day teachers in a home school in the morning, and a mission school in the afternoon. Ir.

liriggs. of Will county, had often (elt the reed ot adopting this system in the Sabath school not let it be considered Sunday school for children, but a Bible school, possessing tbe thought of Biblical consid eration, neiore mepcopie prominently, lie am not consider that a single lesson wonld be fonnd as successful as a system of gradation, in which the whole Bible was embraced. Mr. Sehofield was in favor of the uniform system ot lessons, it established a bond of union between the children, woo, when they know that they are all engaged upon the same lesson, will study it and talk upon it during te week. Tbe Sabbath school will gun reoeitTby soi-h onion.

Kev. C. 11. Vincent, in repiv to the gentleman from the country, said that in London, where almost perfection of Sunday School management had been attained, tbe uniform systes had been fonnd most uccesftfnl. and was highly spoken of.

They did not propose to contine their subiect to any one grade, but establish a graded system. Id which earh ear mey prurctrtwu uiucr aim iuxuct. Then again, there was a want ot interest oo the part of the Church not that be witbed to place the school at above tne church, but tbe latter mart consider tbe school as a valuable auxiliary to periorm a great and glorious work. He felt this tact was not properlv appreciated by the community. To obviale the first" difficulty ihey meet interest the children in ibe Scriptures. A foil corps of able acd experienced Instructors i- students admitted at any tame. Address ociTsl u-'It Twp C3. 0. S. COVKET, Prta, 1KK3KS per fleswou ui muw wji ma and The Oat A of the great deficit, an element sadly needed in tbe heavy parts of her role.

This want is also evinced in her execution which is labored aud difficult. Much of the graceful fioritnre of the jyamorsulis was lost on this account, although the general style of the rendition of this aria was excellent and the expression very true to the theme. There was not a well defined trill or run throughout, the trills in the number we have referred to being rather wavers of the voice. But in sweetness of voice, in her superb style of attacking a high note, and in the richness of her lower tones, ehe is very eilective. Her conception of tbe role was very good, as far as the role has any dramatic efteot to be conceived.

The character is only worthy of Sylvanas Cobb, and if any merit attaches to it, it is due rather to the effort of the than to any inherent merit attaching to it. In Foil ml Azucena) we have a genuine arti-t. a legitimate, correct, artistic singer, and a superb actress. Her make up of the character was admirable, and she gave to it a strong vitality and truth, which even (although comparisons are odious) at times surpassed Morensi. portraiture.

Her voice is a eorilruito of great compass, in its lower tones, strong, rich and sympaiueiic; in its merzo, rather ineUcciive. and in is upper, again powerful and ringing, and of excellent, clear and sweet quality. She is eminently a dramatic contralto, and in euch descriptive passages as the conuotta eWera and the ttriuettt ZiM.pa rises to tbe full conception of the character, and outlines it musically with great spirit and fire. As tar as vocalization is concerned, we have never beaid the si la Hunchezsa sung better. Her part of the duo was rendered like a true artist, the 1-ghteand shades carefully marked, and the sentiment beaulifully rendered.

The enthusiastic encore was well deserved. Musiani (Maurico) was verv handnomelv ceived. Bis opening aria ffwrf voce evidently dis appointed the audience. There was an unpleasant twang to bis voice which fell upon the ev haiblv. but as he progressed and warmed with his part, it, to a large extent, disappeared, and the qualities of the artist manifested themselves.

His mai reggendo ws a very fine piece of vocalization, and his parts in the duo si la stancttesza and in tbe miserere music ere well sustained, but his triumph and the great sensation of the evening, was the tii qvetta pira introducing the high chest or, as tbe impressarii love to call it, the vt de poitrine, Tbe whole aria was rendered intensely dramatically and tvith spirit. The tit introduced in the finale startled e.ery one by its suddenness and brilliancy. The im-uuaj piacv 01 its- luiruuuciiuu, miner luau at ine final note, also added to tbe fleet. The octave was taken superbly and the was clear, rich and sparkling, absolutely the best tone he produced during evening. It secured him a most enthusiastic encore.

We commend the ut to the New York and otherprovincial audiences of next spring. vjriauuiiu (we iuuui uas a uaxuuue voice ui considerable power and very good quality. Hoarseness, however, prevented nim from appearing at best and nearly ruined his per me ora fatuAe, confining him to the lower octaves and making painful breaks and indecisions of voice. On the balen, the air beloved of baritones, he was more fortunate, aud sang so well as to secure an encore, hut, as a whole, his voice was not in good trim and as, consequently, more or less nnmanageaoie. We hope to hear him under more favorable circum stances.

Tne secondary narts of fRnlx Lanorte and iTnezl Magri, which, in this opera, are decidedly secondary, were fairly taken. The male chorus is very strong, and is made np of good voices, hut if anything, is a little too demonstrative. A little toning down and shading would produce better harmony and a more perfect blend ing 01 tone, ano a lew more renearsais togetner, win ensure more uniformity. The female chorus is very tbinand ineffective. Weare afraid that the Impresario gathering together the young ladies among the vine clad bills of Italy! and elsewhere, had an eye faces rather than voices, and endurfni? vonni? charms rather than strong lungs.

Thankful as we areioran improvement in payatques we snouia hae referred an imnrovement in tones. The pea cock is an elegant fowl but would hardly be con- aiaereo a oesiaeraium in a oira cnorus. I he orchestra numbers about thirty pieces with slight reinforcement of home talent in the trombone corner, but we would euegest that tbe audience will discover their presence without announcing it so loudly on tbe said trombones. The brasses need subduing, and tbe whole orchestra sadly wants effective rehearsal. 1'he effect of several arias and choruses was sadly marred by their playing.

The success a a whole last evening was fixed, and the performance was very satisfactory for a first appearance. The resources of the troupe are by no means exhausted. Gran, like a wise imnresario. has reterved some of his choicest wine for the last courses, and there are fine artists yet to come, amorg them Anastasi, Buscbetti, Miller! and Gaz- zamga. lo-nignt, Gounod Faust.
